Summary
The Yoshinaga-Gumi are growing fast and carving out new opportunities for itself in the Seattle Metroplex. Feelers have been sent out to the campaign of the Republican gubernatorial candidate Kassandra Hemmingway about how a Hemmingway Administration and Yoshinaga-Gumi might find ways to work together…
Background
The Oyabun of the Yoshinaga-Gumi, Yoshinaga Chikara, runs his clan in a manner that is so New Way that it is practically Its Own Way: complete openness to metahumans, magicians, and technomancers; real community protection, not protection rackets; and a clear and inviolable line drawn between civilians and criminal elements. Chikara wants to make an arrangement to provide community service for the Newcastle neighbourhood of Bellevue…in exchange for a hands-off approach from the new incoming Metroplex Administration. Chikara sends Ryuuji and a small stipend to pay for a team to support and escort him.
The Meet
The team meets in southern Tacoma to plan out the mission.
The Plan
The plan is for Thunder to use his magic to buff Ryuuji’s Charisma, Ka$hious to provide social support, and for Thunder and Chameleon to provide physical security during the meet.
The Run
The team meets under an abandoned bridge underpass in an especially empty, razed section of Puyallup. The contact from the Hemmingway Campaign is waiting for them in a parked car in the shadows. He exits and they discover that he’s a slender and relatively thin dwarf in a nice suit. Ryuuji has assensed him and discovered that he’s angry, which does not bode well. They exchange Etiquette tests, and then Ryuuji, the dwarf, and the giant (Ka$hious) walk into a bar the car for a private discussion.
The dwarf, Peter Yamada, is a criminologist hired by the Hemmingway Campaign to help prepare their agenda for the upcoming administration. As an infant he was taken by his parents out of Imperial Japan and fled to Seattle to escape cultural oppression. He’s got a very low opinion of the Yakuza, and doesn’t want to believe that the Yoshinaga-Gumi is actually any different from the other clans. Ka$hious and Ryuuji and Peter go back and forth in negotiations.
In the end, they agree to a trial arrangement: when the Hemmingway Administration takes over the Metroplex, they will give a new security contract to a shell security company administered by the Yoshinaga-Gumi at an exceptionally deep discount. If the clan can provide good community policing and invest 100% of the security contract funds into their community for a year, the Hemmingway Administration will extend it and become stronger partners with the clan. In exchange the Hemmingway Administration will turn a blind eye to all their criminal activities as long as said activities stay very private and very quiet.
Peace at any cost.
Aftermath
Chikara is thrilled by the team’s success, and instructs Ryuuji to give the team his number for future work. Peter Yamada as well, against his better judgment, gives his number to the team and begrudgingly admits that Ryuuji seems to walk his talk.

Chameleon: Alessa P lined up a nice run. Security for an illicit meeting between a fixer for some politico and a trouble shooter for a Yakuza. Everything went smooth as silk. Thunder put the ole magic glow on Ryuuji and then Ryuuji & Ka$hious double teamed the dwarf. Dude never stood a chance. I did astral security making sure the trio of homeless weren't masked initiates ready to ambush us. Easy peasy. Met a new runner, made some contacts...great night.
Thunder: I was hired exclusively for strictly security detail! My dream of being recognized as a body guard has come true! The job was easy. As a bonus, I boosted some of Ryuuji's attribute and wished him luck for his high stakes negotiations. There was "no heat during the meet", so according to "The Bible of Security Detail", the job primary objective of a bodyguard was achieved. Time to celebrate!
