Summary
A group of runners manages to looney tunes their way through threats to rescue an ex-racist.
Background
Dustin, a former member of Humanis with a silver tongue and good trigger finger, has since turned a new leaf and with his natural speaking talents has agreed to speak on behalf of Kassandra Hemingway. However both enemies new and old wish to hunt him down. Which the runners are here to prevent.
The Meet
Meeting at the daze in the early evening, our runners were informed of a man named Dustin who needed safe escort to Seattle to help support Kassandra's political campaign. Informing them of many people that likely would want his head. Dustin was keeping refuge amidst a casino in the Pueblo Corporate Council via car given several bomb threats should he take any form of arial transportation. Offering a payment of 20k nuyen and other rewards. Blue Jay using her silver tongue was able to squeeze 5k more nuyen out of the Johnson. With this in mind the runners all contacted their respective contacts, learning the roads in and out were being patrolled by various Humanis members and that the border guards near the Pueblo Corporate Council are either easily bribable or are paragons of justice with little in-between. Nogtisune's contact however was able to start a ritual that would predict the future. Stating to beware a pack of wolves where their target currently resided, and to be wary of pursuers on their way back that could not be lost. Jumping into Blue-Jay's roadmaster the group readied themselves for one hell of a roadtrip and began their journey to the PCC.
The Plan
With their gear smuggled and fake-SIN's in hand. The runners headed towards the SSC border and passed with little difficulties. The countryside of the SSC rather peaceful with clear night skies and vast fields of grass and trees. The view in motion as they let their gridlink drive for them as they slept to save on time. Eventually the forest turned to desert as they reached the border to the PCC. The border guards scanning all of their respective sins before finding issues with Five of Nines. Briefly taking it inside for further inspection as the runners sat their nervously. However after around 5 minutes Five's sin was returned and the runners headed along their way. Eventually all finding themselves in Salt Lake City. The metropolis scarily similar to Seattle but without any unique landmarks or locations to make it look less monotonous and similar. Not even a place to lie low or seemingly abandoned. The runners however soon found themselves outside the entrance to a Crazy Eight's Casino. The security guards checking their identification and confiscating Blue Jay's pen they all went it. Meanwhile Pasiphae would wait outside in the event something suspicious or troublesome should arrive. After a little while of investigation the runners concluded Dustin to not be near the slot machines, pool, or theatre part of the casino. But after some brief talks Five's managed to secure a 7500 dollar executive suite near the top floor of the building, assuming their target likely to be in one of said suite's. More specifically the Penthouse. During this investigation however Pasiphae happened to notice a group of orcs heading into the building. Bulges in their coats suggesting the likely smuggling of weapons with two of the members bearing a logo of a green wolf on their back. Informing the other runners of the danger, Pasiphae quickly headed inside to assist should something go down. Nogitsune during this time however with their adept powers managed to assail the walls of the building towards the top penthouse suite. Which after some basic sneaking around Nogitsune managed to find an air duct with they happily and quickly broke into with... all of their might. After traversing through the air duct and causing a small boom to resound through the upper floors with the force they used to open it again. A warhawk now pointed at their head as they broke into the apartment, Nogitsune greeted themselves to the man holding the gun which thankfully was their target and assured them they were going to be rescued. After brief back and forth the team was informed of the ork gang that had entered the elevator Nogitsune got a simple yet effective idea. Quickly heading down the elevator to where Nine's suite was they simple waited for the elevator to head towards the penthouse before riding it down. Completely negating the challenge at hand before pressing all the buttons on the elevator to ensure a longer trip down for the ork assailant's. With the danger minimized the runners all headed back towards the roadmaster and sped towards the border once more to bring their target home.
The Run
With Dustin now safely in the vehicle he gave a brief thanks to all involved but then informed them that he as of that moment was sinless given everyone currently gunning it for him. Nogitsune with a brief call to a Mr. Christmas was able to remedy this problem with a fake sin provided to Dustin under the name of "Henry Manis" getting a good chuckle out of the runners that overheard the conversation. Also a brief "Happy birthday" wish towards Nogitsune that sent the poor fox into a rage as the runners headed towards the border once more. However, once being stopped at the border, The scanners picked up on Pasiphae and Five's sins both being fake. Being asked to step outside the vehicle the runners pondered what to do before presenting bribes towards the border guards that were happy to accept them and let them on their way before their superior heard wind of this and headed over. Agitated at the guards for taking the deal. With tensions running high Blue Jay acted quickly, telling the guards they had no other choice and to simply let them go. Nogitsune assisting this by playing the part of a sickened old man. With debate and hesitance in the superior's eyes. He simply told the runners to go before he changed his mind. With thanks and 600 nuyen lost the runners quickly headed towards Seattle with their clock still kicking. Taking smuggling and back alley's to hopefully lose oncoming pursuers. But despite their masterful and stealthy driving the group was caught by an ambush part of the way through that route. A truck following them from behind with a mounted heavy machine gun ready to fire and a large tree blocking their path ahead. After quickly disposing of the shooter the runners prepared to stop. Nogitsune hanging out the vehicle enticing the pursuers to shoot them instead. With aq revived gunner via a slap-patch in the truck. The quick barrage of bullets easily dodged with Nogitsune's supernatural speed. As the runner's roadmaster came to an abrupt stop two hidden adept's sprang out ready to take the target. But with Five's blocking the doorway she needed to be dispose of first. But unfortunately for the adept's Five was incredibly resilient, taking the damage with little to no effect on her. Immediately proceeding this Pasiphae found it worthwhile to sock the adept clean in the face sending them spiraling backwards. The other adept attempting to help their companion with what time they had left. But immediately following this Dustin decided to aid in the fight. Holding his warhawk outside the door and blasting a bullet clean through one of the adept's kneecaps. Closing the door immediately afterwards stating they needed to go. The drivers in the truck behind them ready to fight before Blue Jay's top mounted RPK dissuaded them as they then sprinted towards the forest. With their attacker's receiving a crystal clear message the runners managed to drive with haste towards the Seattle border with luck gracing them as they headed through without difficulty.
Aftermath
Arriving at the dock's of Tacoma as the sun began to rise. The woman they met at the daze reintroduced herself and offered sincere thanks for managing to get him across safely, with extra time needed to prep to boot. Dustin looking at the runners simply stated thank you once more and that he would do what he can to ensure them all a better future in Seattle before heading in towards the vehicle to part ways. With nuyen in hand and a successful run under their belts, the runners headed home for a good nap and a well deserved break.
