Character Information
Summary
"I believe whole heartedly in freedom through information, but in my years I've learned there are exceptions, there is information no one needs to know. While they are rare, I have declared myself and my past as one of these rare exceptions."
Goals
Background
Youth: Alexander in his youth was a leading member of a hacktivist group whos goals and beliefs revolved around the ideas of freedom of the people started with the freedom of information. Starting around 14/15 years of age he would work with this group to hack in and steal, copy, & release data stored on corp host and servers to the world. Around that time would be the first of two major regrets he holds. He began squrierlling away bits and files of paydata to be sold, but not purely for profit. Alexander was not raised in wealth but by no means had a bad childhood, aside from watching his parents run themselves ragged as wagers to provide the meager life they lived. He know it was mostly due to his existence their lives had become so much more expensive than they could manage, so when he had hid enough pay dirt to get a payout of around 150,000 Nuyen he forged a matrix letter to his parents describing how their son was contracted into private employment to a corp and would be outside of contact for sometime & requested his sign on bonus of 100,000 Nuyen to be given to them. With the remainder of the cred he got someone to burn his birth sin and with that he was on his own. As far as the later years with the organization hey weren't very selective with the information they took, it was always quantity over quality and they would hit anything they could not giving a second thought to the risk. After 4 years, more than a handful of close calls, mountains of threats, and one or two near death dives his luck finally ran out. On a info dig on Aztec he was caught and instead of ending his career, he was given a promotion to a Cyber Security Officer and that is where he stayed for the next two decades
Aztec Prison: In complete retrospect, under more free circumstances he may have enjoyed the job, however for a man who made the fight for freedom his identity, having that stripped from him for around 20 years. Having spent as many years if not more under someone's control as he spent free was more than a blow to his identity and outlook of his situation. Over his time at Aztec he was forceably employed as a security spider, preventing runners, hackers, and even his own former friends from doing the very things that got him here, that he longed to do, that he still wished he could do.
As far as the job went, it wasn't public knowledge that his employment was closer to indentured servitude than employment. To coworkers and other security it looked as if he was a VIP security personnel always escorted by personal guards rather than the reality. He was provided his own personal room, far from luxury but comfortable enough. He was paid for his services outside of company bonuses and events, probably to avoid suspicious from people with access to payroll and accounting. Denied free matrix access nor much communication with anyone outside of official & professional manner.
Adulthood:
On a random shift one day, during an attack by runner team he was swept up in the chaos and saw his chance. He managed to fake his death, grab what he could of his meager belongs and escaped, laying low til he was sure he'd been written off dead by the corp. Forgoing his previous life left on his own with nothing but some minor savings, a backpack worth of gear, and finally his freedom back. With no contacts and little funds to get him by he started setting up a rotating rooms in whatever coffin motels he could find and began looking for people who get him work, and looking for anyone that remained from his old group.
