Character Information

Summary

A former Horizon employee who could've been the star of "My Broken Body" if she had asked.

Goals

Try to learn how to use her Technomancy better, get a real house, track down the man who helped kill her mother, and to just survive.

Background

Short Version

A former San Fransico Horizon employee who fled to Seattle after Emerging.

Long Version

Kyo Yamamoto always had a bit of trouble remembering her childhood. It wasn't like she had full on amnesia, mind you, just a bit of haziness or long blanks. One thing did remember was that her father had died just before she and her mother had left the Japanese Imperial States and moved to San Francisco. Kyo never got a straight answer of what killed her father until, at nine years old, while Kyo's mother was going through another one of her drug binges, her mother told her it had been a Cram and Zen overdose. Then, there was that time when she was ten. A bunch of local gang kids made fun of her for having a "druggie mom who looks like a trog" and said she was just some "fat, useless daughter of a whore". That stung. Another ugly memory was when Kyo, about twelve, was harassed by a large group of drunk Yakuza men who eventually messily shaved Kyo's head. They'd threatened to shoot her if she didn't stop screaming because of the slices on her head, but the cuts were bleeding so badly and...

Kyo tries not to think about her childhood. She was always extremely frail due to her mother's... recreational activities while she was pregnant with Kyo. Kyo was never mad at her mother about it, though. Sure, being borderline crippled was hard, but Kyo managed. Her mother was usually there to help. And things did get better, eventually. Kyo earned a minor position as a wageslave for Horizon at a fairly young age. Though they seemed very interested in Kyo. A bit too interested, really.

Kyo realized why when she fully Emerged at 15. Fearing what they might do to her, Kyo quickly left her job, got her mom, and hurried to the train station. Unsure of really where to go, Kyo headed for Seattle where she had heard easy money could be made. Once in Seattle, Kyo realized she and her mother didn't have enough money to get proper housing. With the last bit of her money, Kyo's mother bought a van and stocked it with basic essentials. At sixteen, Kyo turned to Shadowrunning to make money for her and her mom. She tried her best to conceal her Technomancy on runs, worried someone might target her.

On one of her first few runs, however, Kyo found herself being followed. Kyo tried to lose them, but once she got back to her van-home, shots ripped through the van's walls. Kyo's mother, high on some street drug, leaped to her feet, grabbed her pistol, and marched outside the van. For an excruciating five minutes, Kyo listened to the sound of gunfire while hiding behind the couch. Then there was silence. Kyo crawled out of her hiding place and slowly edged out of the van. Her mother was propped up against a dumpster, clutching her body. Kyo ran over to her mother and grabbed her hand. That's when Kyo could finally see how much blood was around her mom. The two held each other, crying. After what felt like forever, Kyo let go of her mom, who was cold and limp now. Kyo took her mother's wedding ring, which she'd never taken off, and put it into her pocket.

Wiping the tears from her eyes, Kyo turned to see who had killed her mom when she felt a fist slam into her jaw. She crumpled to the ground, clutching her head, and grasped for the pistol her mother had used. Turning to see her attacker, Kyo watched as his sledgehammer crashed into her back. The sound of her fake cyberdeck breaking was almost as loud as her cry. That's when Kyo realized the ringing in her ears wasn't from the pain. Her attacker was screaming, clutching his eye, his sledgehammer on the ground. Kyo crawled backwards, taking several more shots at the man, all of which missed. The man, still holding his face, ran off. Kyo never quite recovered from the experience, and she still gets very uncomfortable around guns, even refusing to touch one again. Pepper Punch is fair game, though.

Kyo has mostly recovered, and even managed to move up a bit in the shadows, becoming one of Shadowhaven's own. And, of course, Kyo became Skeleton due to her pale skin and lanky body.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Common Sense: Despite everything, Skeleton can usually think out her situations a bit better than most.

Family Curse: Her mother and father were both hard drug addicts.

Incompetent (Firearms), Phobia (Common, Mild) (Firearms), Phobia (Uncommon, Moderate) (Blood): After her mother was gunned down, Skeleton gets nervous around any gun and blood.

Infirm: Skeleton was very frail to begin with, and she never really did any labor-intensive work.

Records on File (Horizon): Skeleton didn't leave Horizon very cleanly.

Social Stress (Large Crowds): The image of Technomancers being horrible, freaky monsters burned its way inside of Skeleton's mind and perception of herself. She always worries someone might somehow realize she's one of them and start a mob.

Appearance

Standing at 173 cm and weighing only 41 kg, Skeleton looks, fittingly enough, a bit like a skeleton. She is fairly pale, a bit gaunt, and lanky. Despite her alarmingly thin body, Skeleton is reasonably pleasing to look at. The two things Skeleton loves about her body is her hair, which is always well kept, and her skin, which is nearly always flawless, if she can help it.

Clothing

Since Skeleton spends most of her time in her van-home, she usually wears baggy sweatshirts, sweaters, or hoodies with a tanktop. Usually she puts on pajama pants or sweatpants if someone comes over. Usually. When she is in public, however, Skeleton is always wearing her fashionable respirator and something that looks like it came straight from the "Stylish and Comfortable" section of the newest fashion catalogue. All of her normal clothing is in pleasing pastels or whites and typically have cute designs on them. On runs, Skeleton wears an unremarkable armor jacket. Just in case.

Matrix Persona

Skeleton has a neon pink skeleton with a white heart on its face as her persona.
