Summary

A kindly older fellow hired a few runners to retrieve a very old antique car, 'stolen' once from its original owner. He wanted it reclaimed and returned to him. Nothing hard to stomach, nothing to worry about.

Background

Winternight was an apocalyptic toxic Norse cult based out of Scandinavia which attempted to bring about Ragnarök as they viewed it - through worldwide nuclear fire. They and their allies, the Otaku tribe of Ex Pacis, failed at this task - though they were instrumental in maximizing the destruction of the Second Matrix Crash.

The Meet

In C-Security Rated Renton is a small city park, long forgotten by anyone who would have cared for it and left to slowly decay amidst the pollution. The meet was held there; the older fellow in question, calling himself Wednesday, was seated at a park bench when they arrived.

He offered early payment in the form of antique baubles - genuine magical artifacts, to be fair - to retrieve the specified vehicle. Only Thunder could remain without suspicion between Scrappenny's radiation detector and the Smiling Warrior's sense for mystical malevolence both finding them objectionable, though the team still accepted the job itself.

The Plan

The car was said to be locked in a warehouse secured by EuroPol. Scrappenny's information gathering determined its purpose: to store both toxic and otherwise dangerous magical paraphernalia, as well as memorable objects from particularly notorious criminals, the latter to prevent copycats from attempting to attain legitimacy.

One of these objects was a pre-Matrix Rolls Royce automobile once owned by Wednesday, one of the co-founders of Winternight, who committed suicide during Crash 2.0.

After discussing various complications, the team planned to use the provided info on where the car is inside to steal it from underground. Rather than attempting to fight the security and defenses head-on, they would likely only need to handle a single guard, and keeping track of them through the Ork Undercity would be difficult at best.

The Run

Godai's own grasp of direction and Scrappeny's knowledge of smuggling routes were used to help the Smiling Warrior, a talented scout, get everyone led to the right location without drawing too much attention. Thunder found himself rather hobbled in the process: a minor, but deep-rooted fear of rats does not help in a rat-infested underground tunnel system.

The Smiling Warrior, in the form of just another rat, used a collar-mounted camera to locate the underground security. A single guard, as hypothesized - albeit one incredibly well-protected. She provided spotting support, allowing Thunder and Godai to prepare their weapons for an alpha strike, joined by one of Scrappenny's drones.

Despite their preparations, and enough firepower to kill most things that stand on two legs, the guard was able to retain awareness long enough to activate a Pain Editor. A short, but brutal fight followed, as his armor allowed him to withstand an incredible amount of punishment while bringing his automatic shotgun to full bear. Thunder was nearly killed, and Scrappenny's expensive drone nearly destroyed.

The Smiling Warrior provided support in the form of a hunter-ancestor spirit of her people, who focused on the mind of their foe rather than the body. Stricken with intense, forcibly-imposed fear, the guard was routed, and further pursuit from the spirit and Godai ensured he was taken down.

In the meantime, Scrappenny stabilized Thunder with a nanite medkit and went to place explosives. The Smiling Warrior returned to human form to focus on healing Thunder back up, then re-clothed and geared herself and took position in the truck. Once the others returned, Godai prepared to shoot down pursuers, while the spirit was ordered to cloak the group.

Reinforced concrete was blown through, dropping the car straight down. Thunder hooked the truck to its grille, then hopped on for the team to escape at fastest speed. Godai shot down a following drone to ensure they weren't tracked.

For not getting caught in the first place, however, it took an intense effort from the Smiling Warrior as their guide and an absolutely astounding display of skill by Scrappenny to escape quickly, cleanly, and without managing to crash into a single thing in ruined, partially-collapsed, unmapped tunnels. Their success led them back groundside, far from the warehouse, with the car only suffering superficial damage.

Aftermath

The older fellow was quite ecstatic to see the car again, and offered some of his old knicknacks as payment. The guard's shotgun was also retrieved. Truly, a simple run with nothing to worry about, even if some others might get the wrong idea.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Thunder: We met with Mr. Johnson (Wednesday) in an empty park. He mad a very good impression and generously offered fantastic artefacts of great power as pre-payment to re-possess an old car that had belonged to the famous terrorist Winternight.

It took a while to come up with a plan, to get to the car because it's so heavily guarded (EuroPol and dedicated Knight-Errant emergency support). Luckily, we managed to find a way through the Ork Underworld to the place just below the building where the car was stored. Smiling Warrior was essential in scouting the way and the site!

There was only one guard at the site, so we prepared to knock him out in a coordinated ranged attack. Godai and I with archery, Scrapenny controlling a drone and Smiling Warrior keeping a watchful eye an everything. Unfortunately, the guard noticed me and the air became stuffed with his heavy shot-gun rounds. I don't really know how I survived it, but I am thankful to the team that healed me from after I had taken so much damage and became unconcious.

As soon as I woke up, we blew a hole in our ceiling and the car came down in one piece. We hooked it to the truck and sped like maniacs through the under-ground maze to tow the car to Mr. Johnson as soon as possible. I don't know how Scrapenny could move through the maze so quickly, but I am certainly glad to be alive!

Scrappenny: Driving like a bat out of hell. and that was a rather risk thing to deal with. not counting that whatever he was trying to sell was like heading to glow city on a bad day with the tick tick tick going off from whatever those foci he was trying to sell
