Character Information

Summary

An archer wanders out of the woods and into the shadows. Having lost his isolated home to corporate greed, Timber doesn't have much left to lose, and is determined to strike back at the corps however he can and to aid those who have suffered at their hands.

Goals

1. Hone his archery skills.

2. Meet other shadowrunners who share his values.

3. Prevent corporations from erasing cultures and damaging nature, however he is able to.

4. Find or establish a druidic circle to look after what nature is left in Seattle.

Background

Morgan was born in a hidden redoubt in a natural cave in the Welsh hills. This redoubt was home to a tiny community, no more than 50, of Welsh druids that had moved into the cave decades earlier to avoid the influence of the megacorps and preserve Welsh culture, druidic magic, and nature itself in the face of pushback from both the UK government and the megacorps that operated in its territory. From a young age, Morgan followed in his mother's footsteps and became a hunter, part of a small group charged with keeping the redoubt safe from roaming critters, both normal and paranormal, and from corporate agents who roamed too close. Though Morgan wasn't Awakened yet, he trained well, and was soon an adroit archer, and was given a bow of his own, joining the hunting parties that ranged out from the redoubt shortly after.

However, despite the hunters' proficiency with traditional weapons, bows are less effective against helicopters than lone agents. Once it became clear that A) their employees kept getting shot with arrows in this area of the Welsh hills, and B) the redoubt itself was sitting on a decent ley line to claim, Saeder-Krupp sent in a team to purge the druids and set up a camp. The hunting party only survived by not being in the cave when it was attacked. The fate of the druids still in the redoubt is unknown, but Morgan presumed them dead.

With their community suddenly dissolved, the six surviving hunters were cast adrift and quickly split up. Morgan ended up in London, worked small jobs mostly involving his combat proficiency for a while, before having a crisis of faith in a back alley. It was then that he Awakened, and his mentor spirit, Wolf, appeared to him for the first time. Wolf ensured him that the destruction of his clan wasn't the end for him. He was still a hunter, a predator, and predators are very important to the ecosystem. They keep prey populations in check, preventing them from growing too large and overwhelming the environment, stripping it of its ability to bear life in their own pursuit of growing larger.

It didn't take much of a leap for Morgan to apply that metaphor to himself and the corporations. While he isn't stupid enough to think he can take down the corps by himself, he is absolutely intent on making himself the sharpest goddamn thorn in their sides as he possibly can. Following Wolf's advice, he decided to find a new place to stake out his territory, somewhere he had no attachment to, where he could focus on honing his new adept powers and form lasting connections with others who shared similar views. After crashing in a motel for one last night and going through a crash course on the world and modern culture over his new "commlink" and finding a SIN forger, he bought a ticket to Seattle, interested in joining the shadows under his new identity of Timber.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • Mentor Spirit (Wolf, Alt) - Timber is guided by Wolf, who he deeply respects. Wolf teaches him to be ruthless and pragmatic, and Timber usually listens when they give advice.

Negative

  • Computer Illiterate - Timber's community specifically avoided modern tech to keep off the grid, leaving Timber with little experience using computers and the Matrix.
  • Disheveled - Timber's lack of exposure to typical modern etiquette means he always finds a way to make whatever outfit he's wearing fail at being stylish.
  • Emotional Attachment - Timber's bow, Pathmaker, is extremely precious to him, and he never goes anywhere without it if he can help it.
  • Prejudiced (Corpers, Outspoken) - Timber hasn't forgotten the destruction of his home, and he sees its destroyers in any corporate employees he meets.
