Summary

Valentin “Vesper” Dragomirov is a technomancer and a skilled face. Once a big fish in a small shadow community pond, he has recently moved to Seattle and found his way into the ShadowHaven collective. The Resonance grows inside him as he continues his likely doomed search for his sister’s whereabouts.

Goals

Study and understand technomancy, grow more connected with the Resonance, and most importantly: discover what happened to his sister.

Background

Valentin Dragomirov was born in 2060 in Australia, a corp-cit of Mangadyne Corporation where both his parents worked. When Valentin was 4 Crash 2.0 wrought its destruction upon the world, and in the chaos his parents were extracted from Mangadyne to work for Ares subsidiary Mostrans in Moscow. After years of hard work parents moved up the corporate ladder and the family found themselves living in Detroit. Unfortunately for Valentin and his sister Anna, his father was accused of corporate espionage. His parents divorced, his mother relinquishing parental responsibilities for her two unwanted children, and his father ended up sentenced to a decade in an Ares Penal Colony.

Both Valentin and his sister were suspected of corporate disloyalty and were assigned to a Moral Hygiene Academy located deep in the Michigan wilderness. Valentin prospered and was soon flagged for Ares-sponsored higher education after turning 18…but his sister did not. Depressed and furious with Ares for their treatment of their father, and heartbroken by their mother’s abandonment of them, she spurned her studies. By the time they turned eighteen Ares revoked her Corporate Limited SIN. Anna tried to convince her brother to leave with her but he refused, deeply indoctrinated by Ares propaganda. She left, and he stayed, and it was only when he stopped hearing from her that he dropped out of his education track to go looking for her.

Realizing his sister had been trafficked broke Valentin, who took responsibility for her disappearance. Unable to come to terms with the possibility of her death he turned to a life of crime, latent technomantic abilities slowly growing inside of him.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Black Market Pipeline: Efim Amirov is not a kindly man, but he is certainly a surrogate father figure for Vesper.

Prototype Transhuman: Vesper was crafted in vitro with love and care by his father. His father’s imprisonment and his mother’s rejection of him is a deep pain for who had grown up feeling cherished.

Exceptional Attribute (Intuition): Vesper is highly attuned to the world, a fast thinker, and highly mentally reflexive. He is a very good judge of character which can lead to danger, as his over reliance on his gut can lead him to make terrible decisions when manipulated.

Negative

Addiction (Cereprax and Psyche): Vesper yearns to expand his mind and his abilities, seeing no reason why he shouldn’t. He will be irritable and mistrustful of any situation that requires him to remain sober for extended periods of time. He feels his authentic self is the one that is stimulated.

Insomnia: Most of the time his brain works like clockwork, needing very little sleep, running like a turbocharged engine. But sometimes his thoughts just cannot be stilled, no matter how much meditation he uses. Those are tough nights.

Down the Rabbit Hole: The Matrix flows through Vesper, and Matrix Searches are elegant and lightning fast jumps from topic-to-topic and from host-to-host. Occasionally, a fragment that looks to be a clue about his sister’s fate can completely derail his Flow and cause him to obsessively chase down the mirage.

Code of Honor (Avenging Angel): Vesper is, by all accounts, a uniquely kind and compassionate young man in the shadow running community. He doesn’t want to hurt people, and refuses to allow others to hurt those who he feels do not deserve punishment. But he has a deep, burning well in his heart for those that traffic individuals for sex and for enslavement.

Driven: Anna. He has to find out where she is. She has to be alive. Has to be.
