Summary

Blackstone's Circus of the Paranormal had a train derailed with some contraband on board that had gotten loose into Snohomish. They hired a runner crew to work things out quickly and quietly before the Pawn's investigator realized there was more going on than just a wreck when the manifests went bad. The team made a fun night of grabbing critters all over Snohomish and Everett.

Background

Blackstone's has doubled as a Para critter smuggling ring for decades and this time they got their comeuppance as an eco-terrorist group rigged a train wreck as the delivery of official and unofficial goods were getting dropped at an agricultural station in Snohomish.

The Meet

Miss Hattie meets everyone at Purgatory in Snohomish, leaving invites at the door. One of the bouncers surprisingly beats Oberrons mask, unnerving him. The team doesn't negotiation Hattie down much but does get her to open up the telesma library and come off a bonus she was stiffing them on. Oberron identified a vampire poser and may have made a date to come back later.

The Plan

Track the tags, astral confirm, and head to the different locations the critters have made it in the allotted time.

The Run

The team had 4 targets to collect in about 6.5 hours, with a drop off timer for each one. The clients absolutely did not want the run going past dawn the following morning.

The first target was a lightly wounded horned bear that had made its way into a large drainage culvert behind a Snohomish shopping plaza. The team found the critter and tried to drive casual but was noticed by parking lot security. As Oberon and Koi sneak down to handle the bear, the private security swings around and shines lights on Obsidian and Joule. Incredibly strong willed basic human security really isn't feeling it, and is even dubious about a rather large bribe. Finally the team breaks and shows the horned bear to the two guards, who happily accept the bribe going forward. Oberon takes point with some bear food and a borrowed horned bear hauling van and ushers the critter right in. Joule narrowly avoids an unlucky bump that would have put her in the back of a van with an angry bear. Dropped off, grand total 1 hour 15 minutes.

2 Shadow Hounds slipped into a pack of security dogs in a home goods store. The team tag tracked and astral scouted, realizing the hounds had snuck in and likely already started bonding with a pack of attack dogs in the store. Koi hacked the exterior cameras and got into the host the backdoor route. Oberon picked the lock and snuck in, Joule snuck around to the front door. Koi moved to the front to hack an external camera and found they were on a timer. Joule threw the front door open to attract the attention of the pack as Oberon threw a physical barrier over the target. Joule levitated herself invisibly away from the dogs, one of them landing a glancing blow on her foot before Koi reset the cameras and everyone bugged out,but not before Obsidian had a spirit stash the RFID tags from the shadow hands nearby, slowing down the pursuit of the KE detective, and inadvertently giving him her aura.

The team at this point receives an OOC account of the KE Detective out to make a name for himself and on the prowl picking up crumbs from their job.

The Unicorn was one of the first stealth tags for the smuggled cargo and had made it pretty far into Northern Snohomish to the Johnson Family Ranch and Paddock, a small stable operation of about 15-20 acre split up between the commercial stables, paddocks, and resting spaces and the actual home property. They cleared a checkpoint, and then failed to find a great road in, but did find a gate into the rear paddock, and it being relatively late, they pulled the van up to the rear gate, Koi started the sneaking and camera hacking. As she finished looping, and finding other security systems, she disarmed a data bomb and found the household security had flagged the local security the minute an unregistered vehicle pulled onto a service road. Relatively simultaneously, the owner's pet Cerberus hound came tearing across the property to try and take a huge chunk out of Koi's cyberleg. Koi's leg held, and Oberon managed to use a firm furry hand and some bear chow (and a 6 hit animal handling roll) to calm the dog down and get a few minutes of control over it. Obsidian stepped up to tbe unicorn and in true elven mythic fashion, was judged worthy with a 5 hit animal handling roll as her spirit controlled the horsed to give the unicorn space. With some treats, and some jury rigging between Koi and Oberron the unicorn was swiftly tied into place and shuttled to the drop zone not too far north of the pc's, leaving only the last target.

The final target was a pack of 8 blood monkeys, who had been left to their own devices long enough to wander north and get hungry. Taking over a brand new stuffer shack in Everett, killing the staff and security guard, eating the guard's open bottle of Jazz and creating absolute havoc in the store. Detective Rusty Maise beat the team to the location when he caught a garbled distress call, and the team arrived to Rusty holding one of the Monkey's off his person with a flame fist. The team was relatively unsympathetic to the plight of the Mage Cop, especially as he was burning their targets. Eberon entered as an albino monkey and the rest of the team sprinted in behind to survey the carnage. Oberon nerve struck the cop while Koi was attacked by and promptly stunned out a few of the monkeys. They blitzed the rest of the team but ultimately were made short work of. The police mage threw down a napalm wall as he realized a runner team had come in behind him and then was quickly nerve strike and monkey cut into paralytic submission. The team made short work of the monkeys even as the fire supression system in the stuffer shack went off. Koi wiped their digital footprint while everyone else scrubbed personal footprints and astral sigs. Oberon, snuck a point of essence off the mage cop while no one was watching and the cop was unconscious and paralyzed, then, after ensuring he would not die, hit him with laes. Erasing all memory of the night except his notes.

The clients were relatively understanding about one burnt but alive monkey that the team went out of their way to save.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

"I have never understood the ATF more than today... Still hate them... but I get the dog thing if it's like that." - Koi

"Hopefully the Leal does it's job and we don't' have to deal with the Knight Errant. While this job didn't conflict with my Oath, helping smugglers smuggle illegal animals isn't exactly the standard of a Paladin or Knight of Beauty..." Obsidian
