Summary
Background
Roxxy Spark's boyfriend Brick slept with a rival ganger rockergirl in the Scatterbrains, by the name of Doodles. Throwing a molotov through her window would be too easy, Roxxy wants the girl to be humiliated, so she uses "borrows" funds from recent drug and BTL sales to hire some professionals to ruin Doodles's life.
The Meet
Metamorphosis's car gets stuck in a pothole on the way to the Jackal's Lantern. Two bums try to rob him, but are ran off by swarms of rats. Rainbow helps get his car moving again in exchange for some fuel and the two head to the bar. Caliban refuses to show up in person, so hacks into a camera in the bar and appears via the trid projector in Rainbow's commlink.
Roxxy is screaming at Brick when the runners show up, but he's sent away so they can talk business. The team assumes she wants the target dead, but making her miserable is the goal for now. After agreeing to the gig, she tells them the little that she knows: That her name is Doodles, that she's in the wizpunk band Whoopie Pie, and that she's part of the Scatterbrains gang. The big things she wants are public humiliation and for her lodge to be trashed.
The Plan
Rainbow bounces between ideas like sleeping with Doodles's mother somehow or just kicking her ass on-stage, but with limited info Caliban starts diving into the Matrix to find information. That takes hours, so Metamorphosis does a quick search and finds out that her band is playing at Dirty Rikki's in Everett that night.
The Run
Rainbow and Metamorphosis head to Dirty Rikki's, Rainbow crashes off betameth and decides to sleep off the crash in an alley. He wakes up to a homeless man rifling through his pockets, beats him up in retaliation, and mugs him as payback. A pair of Scatterbrains hanging out in the parking lot watch the fight, and one offers to buy the man's now-missing teeth because he thinks the gang's boss would appreciate them.
Metamorphosis mingles in the bar and sees that Doodles is a mage with a spirit of man hanging around her, and gets a feel for how the crowd feels about the band.
Rainbow springs into action by rushing into the bar, launching a grapple gun into the ceiling, and swinging onto stage just as Doodles is casting Mob Mood on the crowd to spread a feeling of utter joy. Caliban halts her searching to brick Doodles's cybereyes, giving Rainbow the opportunity to snatch the microphone and subject the crowd to some absolute awful freestyle rap. Thankfully the mood control spell is enough to keep the crowd from turning on him for a moment, but it gets dropped when Doodles tries and fails to take him down with Agony and commands her spirit to get him off the stage. Her bandmates try to jump the monochrome elf, but he dodges and rushes out of the venue before the spirit can materialize. Meanwhile, Metamorphosis's demon rat Diabolis gets into a brief scuffle launching acidic spit at a Scatterbrain ganger with a pistol, but neither manages to hit the other before the runners flee the scene.
Rainbow floors it and gets away clean, but Metamorphosis isn't so lucky and is pulled over by KE. Caliban hits the officer with a Popup action to give Metamorphosis a second to hide Diabolis, and he presents his paperwork for the two devil rats still in the car. The fake SIN and licenses pass inspection, but the cops take their sweet time checking things out and the runners start getting antsy. The cop smashes a tail light and extorts a "fine" (bribe) out of the blind runner, and Rainbow decides he's going to "help" by firing into the air and then at the lights of the squad car with stick n shock rounds. This stops KE from further harassing Metamorphosis, and after a brief chase Rainbow successfully evades the police.
Aftermath
Roxxy uses the information gathered by Caliban, plus the forged social media post of Doodles's piss-stained rug to release a diss track. Doodles is too busy recovered from having her cybereyes spiked to hell and back, cleaning her ruined apartment, sourcing new magical materials, and trying to repair her social media presence to respond until she's started losing fans.
Between social media posts about the scuffle at Dirty Rikki's and police reports, every runner involved has been exposed enough that Public Awareness starts to grow.
