Summary

Empress, Raum, and Asura are called in to handle what Grandma Tusk thinks is just some wizgang kids. The job soon becomes a vampire hunt as the team unravel the dangers of goth girls in our society.

Background

A new gang, the Shadowblades, had been cropping up in Snohomish and causing problems for the local population, with reports of people entering into a little section of woods and disappearing. Grandma Tusk doesn't have a lot of the details herself, but troublemaking mages is something no one wants to deal with, so she hires a group of runners to help teach them a lesson and then hopefully stop any further violence.

The Meet

The three runners arrive at Grandma Tusk's and hurry over to get the meet underway. Grandma Tusk explains the situation regarding the Shadowblades to the best of her ability, but her information is limited. She offers 8k nuyen for the gang to be dealt with, though she politely asks the runners to not use excessive force unless absolutely necessary. Most of the terms are agreeable, but Raum insists on allowing the gang to get better access to some better guns if at all possible. Grandma agrees, and gives the gang a rough location of where the Shadowblades are getting up to no good.

After a bit of snacking on some cakes from some of the trio was finished, the job was underway.

The Plan

The first problem with the job was the overall lack of information surrounding these up and comers, so Raum and Empress decided to disguise themselves up just in case and start asking around the affected area for any clues or a hideout. Once the group collected enough information to work with, they could descend upon the gang and give them a quick lesson in discipline between Asura's sharpshooting and Raum's magic. Perhaps they'd interrogate a member or two along the way if needed.

The Run

Investigations were underway, and immediately there were some unforeseen complications to the plan. Not in the actual information gathering-Raum's guile and Empress's good looks ensured that coaxing the locals for more information regarding the upstarts wouldn't be an issue. No, the issue lay in the fact that there were rumors of them taking young men into the woods, where they would never be seen again. Concerned by this, the team did a search to try and find any sign of these apparent gothic kidnappers and found one in the process of luring yet another young man into the woods. Asura decided to just shoot her unconscious and make this whole thing easier, and so nailed the girl in the chest with a stick 'n' shock slug, which seemed to knock her down fast as the young man panicked. But as the team began to close in on her...she got back up. Realizing she was absolutely not human, Asura corrected her earlier mistake and nailed the girl in the head as Raum kept the young man from fleeing by lifting him into the air, and the two faces commenced the good cop/bad cop routine to calm him down and convince him not to speak of this again (or, good girl/bad cultist as it were). The runners proceeded to interrogate the young woman-she was one of the Shadowblades, a group of magical vampires who had been taking these men into the woods as an easy food source. They had 4 other members and a little cabin to hide out in. Deciding that the gang of predatory vampires was in fact not good for the health of the community, they finished off the vampire and hatched a second plan: Empress, an actual infected, lulls the other infected into a trap so Raum and Asura can tip the scales in their favor and deal with these mages efficiently. After a bit of time searching, the plan was in motion and the team was set. With a masterful performance from Empress, the other two prepared and took their shots on two of the vampires visible. While one was brought down fast, the other had a lucky break and managed to dodge with some helpful cover, and a fight broke out. Despite some rough luck and heavy hits from the vampires and a flashback that nearly incapacitated Asura for the whole fight without Empress's intervention, the team prevailed with teamwork and a few comet-based orbital strikes, and the Shadowblades were no more.

Aftermath

Despite Asura being somewhat shaken by the encounter and badly wounded, the team were ok for the most part and were able to get their pay, along with a pretty nice deal for weapons.

Asura

Despite making it out ok, that flash during the fight was...daunting. As the manabolt seared her body, her left eye flashed between the astral and the physical briefly. She could still remember the way her body was mangled from...wherever she was in her past. Fighting. Nearly dying. Surrounded. The creeping dread may be something she has to embrace if she wants answers...

Raum

People always fall for the same stupid drek. Is a decent looking girl with too much makeup on really all it takes to lure people to their doom? Makes me wonder why I spent so much time trying to learn how to play people. Oh well. Pulling my weight in a fight was nice, got a little hairy when the muscle started losing her drek but nothing I couldn't handle. I've really got to stop breaking character, though. Getting too zealous and tossing around the signature spells too often might have people start figuring things out.
