Summary

In the aftermath of The Great Wave, a group of runners hope to save an injured and desperate sister find her brother that may have succumbed to the taint of toxic magic. But are they too late?

Background

Amidst the radioactive storms that overran Redmond, a brother and sister simply tried to escape the ensuing chaos. The brother using his exceptional magical ability to help his sister escape the chaos and devastation but not without himself disappearing. Days after the event had occurred the sister desperate to find or help him... or gain closure calls upon a group of runners to put her mind at ease.

The Meet

Meeting at Redmond after moving past the countless decomposing bodies but of flesh and of sulfur, near Touristville a newly erected monument dedicated to the countless deaths caused by the storms was erected. The runners looking for a young woman indicated by their respective fixers, only able of noticing several people in morning and the gangs even calling for a brief cease fire to pay their respects. Eventually though they found the woman sitting at one of the nearby benches overlooking the monument. Clearly distraught and confused the runners were able to get a picture of what had happened, how amidst the storms a group of people speaking a foreign language approached them and her brother used his magical abilities to push her away and try to combat the individuals. Her brother apparently being a very capable mage with aspirations of becoming a runner doing a few solo jobs all by himself at his age. With this knowledge in mind the runners were offered a pay of 30k nuyen for completion of this task. Some prying later revealing this was all her and her brother were able to accumulate through his makeshift runs and her chop shop. Some runners rejecting this pay while others needing the nuyen accepted it.

With this in mind however a struggle ensued where the runners wished to find her a comfortable home to stay at whilst they completed their task. Several contacts called later managing to acquire her a fake sin and a strong enough permit to access Bellevue and a nice hotel therein. With that settled the runners set out to find her brother and save him or find closure.

The Plan

The runners went about their own ways in the hopes of securing information on his whereabouts. Nearl beginning by hoping to divine his location via an image provided due to her ally spirit capable of perceiving the matrix. But the residual background count hampered their ability so Nearl went to the foci shop of one Johna Lambert, a Redmond local. His shop being cleaned out due to the storms and the resulting tainting of nearly everything magical in his store. Nearl having a decent relationship with the man allowing her to sit in a new and very luxurious leather chair which Johan had acquired during the storms due to a foolish corpo in the wrong place at the wrong time. With a nice cup of infected friendly tea in one hand and a clean background count Nearl's ally spirit searched across the city for any signs of the boy to discover an abandoned parking lot near glow city. Thanking Johan for the tea and time Nearly departed to inform the others of her discovery.

Meanwhile Saint managed to get in contact with one Lee Owens and 8ball. 8ball searching for information on the boy with Lee Owens looking throughout Redmond for information pertaining to where he could have went. 8ball informing Saint the kid was a very potent mage especially for his age that did some solo jobs seemingly by themselves. Saint paying 8ball for the intel then focused on Lee who managed to find out the boy was last spotted near Glow City alongside a group of others that seemed well armed. Also paying them for their intel Saint headed back towards the others to state what they had found.

Finally Ryuuji with some of the intel provided by Saint and Nearl reached out to one Raytheon, and with a brief payment did some scouting of their own. Pointing out the kid was indeed at an abandoned parking lot near Glow City which seemed well guarded with strange occult like symbols and energy. Unfortunately with no access to the astral that was all Raytheon could successfully acquire. Thanking him for his time the runners began their preparations and headed towards the abandoned parking lot hoping to save the boy before it becomes too late.

The Run

Arriving near the parking lot the spirits and various scouting revealed it to be heavily tainted with toxic magic and possessed a powerful ward. Saint not being affected by the taint headed forwards hoping to find a vantage point. All the while Sticks bid farewell to a friendly cat spirit likely tied to the events that had transpired not wishing them harm in the coming battle. Meanwhile Saint used a thin camera wire to peer inside past a small gap in the rubble that was the ceiling and see a large group of well armored and armed cultists with strange runes carved into the ground, The boy seemingly in the center of it banging his head against the wall. Saint accidentally somewhat alerting the guards led to an ambush being set and ambushed the cultists were. Saint manning the frontlines as Ryuuji punched his way through the wall to gain another line of entry. Stryker, Nearl, and Sticks meanwhile aided Saint in defending the door as several cultists headed forward, rifles in hand. Then a large and lumbering nuclear spirit showed itself, launching powerful balls of nuclear energy nearly taking out both Ryuuji and Saint. Stryker doing his best to take out to take out the cultists as Sticks' spells also damaged the cultists slowing them down.

As Ryuuji broke through the wall and was greeted by several nuclear hounds Sticks with his magic was able to calm the radioactive beasts as Ryuuji continued the fight. Nearl's spirits meanwhile were able to take down the Nuclear spirit. With their efforts combined the runners pushed into the compound and took down the leader.

Aftermath

The boy was seen curled up in the corner muttering incomplete sentences to himself. A quick assensing revealing a spirit possessing his body refused to let go and was tainting both theirs and the boys astral aura. Acting quick and with the proper preparations Nearl began exorcising the spirit from the boys body. Ryuuji nearly falling completely as he absorbed the drain of the powerful spell. Thankfully it was successful as the boy then lay. Unfortunately very little was left of the boy's aura. Almost all of it being tainted by toxic magic. Sticks after making a call to one Norville Craddock, was told one of the best avenues may be the Draco Foundation who may have some way to repel the toxic taint. Nearl meanwhile making a call to one of their contacts stated they may have a safe place far away from anyone else that would be safe for the boy. The arguing persisted with nearly no one able to agree on a plausible outcome. The boy being snuck inside a chemseal armor worn by Ryuuji which managed to somewhat tame the spread of the toxic taint.

The boy was then brought to the J who through tears was relieved and talked to him despite his tainted essence. The bickering picked up once more between the runners before Stryker putting his foot down told them to be silent before dragging the J away to a nearby location, telling her of her options and that it was up to her. Thanking the runners for their rescue and one more call from Ryuuji to a doctor located around the Tacoma area, the runners departed, unsure of the boy's fate.
