Background

Wanageeska Huancahuari

Meaning *White Spirit Rock from the Vicuña* was born in 2060 in Shoshoni, Wyoming, to Etlelooaat (Shouter) and Minninnewah (Whirlwind), both Native American descendants. Life in a small, tight-knit community was simple, predictable. That changed in 2064. The second Matrix Crash rewrote the world, and Wanageeska changed with it. She was only four when she first realized she could manipulate electronics without touching them. A toy drone glitched to life at a thought, the radio switched channels with a flick of her mind. Her parents, steeped in tradition and wary of the unknown, reacted with fear. They had heard of Technomancers—those ghostly figures who whispered to machines, hunted down and re-educated by corporate and government forces alike. Their home was no place for such unnatural abilities. They made an impossible choice. Rather than risk their daughter's capture or exile, they left her behind in Boston, hoping the sprawling metroplex would provide her a future they could not.

Indoctrination

Boston was no kind place for a child alone. The city swallowed people whole, and Wanageeska was no exception. She was found by The Other One, a pro-human gang with deep ties to Humanis. At first, they seemed like just another group of angry young men and women—vandalizing property, shouting slurs, picking fights. But as their numbers swelled, so did their ambition. With funding and backing from Humanis, they escalated to kidnappings, assassinations, and brutal raids against metahumans, especially orks and trolls. Wanageeska was not recruited; she was absorbed. A ghost in the system, she became their tool for all things Matrix-related—hacking security systems, erasing evidence, forging identities. She was never much of a fighter, but the gang insisted she learn a weapon. After trying different firearms, she settled on a heavy pistol, though she never became truly skilled with it.

Machines and Mind

Despite the gang’s purpose, Wanageeska found solace in machines. She was more than just a Technomancer—she loved the tangible, the physical. She spent hours tearing apart devices, reverse-engineering them with the help of machine sprites, modifying them in ways even their designers hadn’t considered. She salvaged blueprints from the Matrix, raided corporate facilities for schematics, always searching for ways to rebuild and improve. The gang saw the value in her skills. She became their unofficial mechanic, repairing weapons and armor, upgrading cyberware, fixing drones—anything to keep their expensive gear operational. It was an unspoken arrangement: they provided the muscle, she provided the brains. First aid, however, was a different story. The gang attempted to train her, but her lack of empathy and social awkwardness only seemed to make the injured worse. Instead, she was kept away from triage and focused solely on mechanical repairs.

The Long Game

Locked within The Other One for two decades, Wanageeska had little opportunity to expand her Technomancer abilities. But she wasn’t entirely alone. Somewhere in the depths of the Matrix, she found a mentor—Sn00p3r, an ex-runner turned data broker. He taught her in fragments, feeding her bits of Technomancer knowledge when the gang wasn’t looking. He also gave her an escape plan. With his guidance, she learned how to cover her tracks, how to forge digital paper trails, how to plant false leads. Slowly, methodically, she built an exit strategy—one that didn’t just let her walk away, but burned the gang to the ground.

Betrayal and Flight

After twenty years, the moment arrived. For years, she had been archiving everything—orders, hit lists, financial records, video evidence of crimes. The gang was careless with technology, relying on her to clean up their messes. Instead of deleting files, she copied them. Instead of erasing security footage, she hid it. She built an airtight case against them, piece by piece. Through a quiet exchange, she passed everything to a Knight Errant detective in Seattle. In return, they ensured her escape. The moment the gang realized something was wrong, she was already gone, taking every credit she could siphon from their accounts with her. Seattle became her new home.

The Present

Wanageeska has lived in Seattle for a year now, alone but free. Finding work hasn’t been easy—her Uncouth nature makes social interactions difficult, and many runners find her lack of tact unbearable. But she’s determined. She needs a crew, a team she can rely on, to start earning real nuyen. Though she spent twenty years in a pro-human gang, she never shared their beliefs. Racism never made sense to her—it was a pointless, ignorant hatred, and she saw firsthand how it twisted people into monsters. Now, with her skills sharpened and her path clear, she wants to fight back against the kind of violence that shaped her life.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

  • Child of the matrix - Analytical mind, Focussed Concentration 3, One with the Matrix II.
    • As a Technomancer basically from birth, she grew up with all the ones and zeros right there in her head. She feels more at home in the matrix than anywhere else.

Negative

  • Addiction (Moderate) (Psyche)
    • Being a captive of an anti meta-human gang for 20 years has left some scars. trying to forget all about it, she dove into the matrix and discovered psyche in the process.
  • Uncouth
    • Having never learned proper social skills by both living in the matrix and being raised by a gang, she often doesn't have a filter and just splurges whatever comes to mind.
