Character Information
Summary
Technomancer seeking to unite the matrix and astral planes.
Goals
- Ensure enough money for himself and Ruri to live comfortably and stably.
- Take every opportunity to understand the similarities between the matrix and astral.
- Find a way to access the astral plane as a technomancer.
- Find a way to overlay the matrix into the astral plane.
Background
Born in Fukuoka in 2052 in the JIS, Ikeda was never blessed with a normal life for a child of Japan. Normally children would be free to be left in daycares while their parents work wage-slave jobs to support them. While he lived this for the first half-decade of his life, Ikeda was forced at the tender age of 7 to begin taking care of his baby sister, Ruri, his parents unable to survive without both working and her pointed ears denying them any sort of support from their fellow JIS citizens. How he managed to pull this off, he refused to tell anyone, but somehow the young boy managed to care for the tiny elf until the next big event of his life: The matrix crash. Being 12 at the time, Ikeda had no idea what hit him. When questioned later in life, he admitted that one minute he was monitoring Ruri over the matrix as he (clumsily) made lunch. The next, he was waking up in a burning building, racing to pull Ruri from the flames and fleeing outside. He would later learn that the crash had destroyed wiring in his home, the overload breaking out into a fire. During the chaos, his mother was killed as a derailed train smashed into the building she worked in and his father was killed a day later while trying to repair the damaged wiring. Making things worse, the siblings found their SINs had been erased, contained formerly within one of the destroyed databases. With no income and little future, the Tetsip siblings fell in with the "scum" of Japan, the metahumans hiding from the eyes of the public. With Ruri welcomed as one of them and Ikeda as her guardian, the undertown of Fukuoka turned out to be far more generous to the two than the humanity ever was, teaching the duo how to fight to protect themselves and how to fix up wounds. For Ikeda, they went go one further: After the crash the boy had been constantly speaking of things which nobody could see. Eventually Dai, one of his guardians and a decker, realised that the boy was seeing the matrix constantly and, as best he could, taught to boy how decking worked (even if the concept transfer between doing it with a deck compared to a living persona did mean there was a bit of difficulty at first). In order to keep up with his mentor, Ikeda figured out how to summon "the snakes", strange green entities which could aid him in the matrix...somehow. His mentor insisted these creatures were nothing but trash code, but they somehow worked. Three years after entering these shadows, Ikeda was forced to fight for his life a second time when a gang of trogs kidnapped his sister, insisting vehemently that she was safer "under [their] protection" and far away from the "filthy human". Unfortunately for them, they all used cyberware extensively and the agonising pain which followed the wrathful technomancer teen left them incapacitated, they waking up to find their elf gone and half their stuff unuseable.
Eight years later, at 22, Ikeda managed to russle up a deal with a smuggler between his techno powers and what funds he had gathered together, finally getting his sister out of the racist dead-end nation that was Japan. Ruri for her part took a while to understand why he took her away from the only place she had known and into a strange new land which spoke gibberish (it took a while for Ikeda to teach Ruri enough english for her to get by on her own). The uprooting of everything she knew shook their relationship and ultimately held together primarily due to necessity.
In UCAS he spent what little nuyen had had left to set up a small back-alley medical clinic for Ruri livelihood, specialising in Asian medicine. Of course, a techno like Ikeda was never going to be content in such a job and once it was running steadily Ikeda left it to his sister and answered the matrix's cry for his attention, calling upon his snakes again and again in order to slip into places which wanted him to stay out, leaving just an echo of his passing.Soon after, this "Echo Wave" began to offer his services to others who may have need of him. For a price, of course...
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
- Resonant Stream: Technoshaman
- "There's much more connection between the matrix and the astral than people realise. They're both worlds that only certain people can access, but it's more than THAT you know?"
Negative
- Prejudiced - Outspoken (Orks and Trolls)
- "I don't care when the trogs claim that what happened to my sister was an 'isolated incident'. History shows that's a lie. They're all just monsters waiting to happen."
- Dry Addict (Kami)
- "When my sister said I was addicted, I proved her wrong and quit. Say, you don't have any on you do you Omae?"
- The Goat
- "I guess I just have one of those faces."
- Allergy (Moderate, Pollen)
- "I will frag the next drekbrain who tells me that it's just hayfever."

- This is the sin he tends to use when not on the clock
Appearance
A young-ish Japanese man. Completely devoid of any obvious 'ware and often seen sending messages rapid-fire using his commlink more than anything else. Has black hair and brown eyes.
Clothing
Usually wears his high-class fashion (Vashion) armour when off the clock, but switches quickly to a boring-but-practical armored jacket should he have a chance to change for a job.
Matrix Persona
Echo Wave's personas historically tended towards simply using the default personas attached to whatever commlink he had available. Immediately prior to his connection to the Resonance streams however, his personas all abruptly switched to Lizardmen. When asked, he simply stated it was to do with a chance meeting with a spirit, but refuses to elaborate on what happened and why.
