Background

Born to the more northern parts of the world as his species often is he knew only captivity alongside his mother. They lived in cages and solid boxes his whole young life. Until the day Berg's mom and him tried to escape. They found a weak point in one the barred walls and started hammering it until it gave. They thought freedom was on the other side then they found hopelessness. Mages that kept watch over the area quelled the short-lived outbreak by binding them both down to stop them from moving. Berg felt something in that moment a power he had never noticed before. That was when he turned into a man for the first time. Felt a strange tingle in his mind. Saw for the first time. They were saved that day as a bystander took the moment of shock from the mages to change as well and assume the form of a hyena. After the mages were down and security hailed in the panic they followed the hyena shifter on an escape. Everything was new smells changed, lights changed, people changed. Once they escaped the mom was confused and Berg now felt some kind of disconnect with her. He felt different. They hyena changed to his human form and explained as best he could to Berg. They started to walk and as they continued the Hyena did his best to offer Berg the ability to learn. They hunted together with Berg's mom avoiding big towns and walking south. By the time they reach Seattle Berg can speak at a very loose use of the word. Meanwhile things were still changing with Berg's body. He gained even more access to magic something within allowing him to produce long solid spears of ice. Once in Seattle the Hyena shifter (Randy) revealed a personal friend a Fixer named Bolt. Randy promised Berg he would keep his mom safe but they couldn't stay together so that was the last he saw of his mom or his savior and his life changed forever. Working for Bolt as a delivery boy and slowly learning how to integrate into society or at least pretend to. Bolt taught him many things and introduced him to someone who could help hone this magic inside. Thus began Berg's training as an Adept. Learning to master his body and his animal side. So now grown and mostly aware of the nuance of society he works as a Runner trying to survive day by day knowing full well he can never leave his home showing his abilities.
