Overview
A ruthless and efficient enforcer for the Kanaga-gumi, married to tradition first and his wife second. Politically dull but a brutal combat tactician who has sparked ire among some in the Yakuza for his willingness to challenge authority for the good of the organization. Though these days not outwardly hateful toward those falling outside the bounds of "Japanese" and "Man," he views them as much less human, and much more expendable, and does not regret his past. Despite an unnatural willingness to make his voice heard, he has proven efficient and undyingly loyal to the oyabun, the two most important traits for rising the ranks in the Yakuza.
He has had an intimidating amount of ware installed due to his days as an enforcer on the ground level, and can still use it to great effect.
He is an alcoholic in remission, and will refuse drinks if offered. Cigarettes are his vice of choice.
History
Takashi Kurosawa was a street punk Japanese nationalist in the days before Halley's Comet passed in 2061. The eruption of the Unzen volcano and the resulting Ring of Fire birthed an ocean of new magic into the world, and SURGE'd many otherwise legal Japanese citizens into illegal metahuman variations. In the days after, as the government sought to organize and the power struggle between Japan's corporations, dragons, and the newly crowned Emperor Yasuhito began to take shape, many citizens took the affront of this new "goblinization" into their own hands. Takashi Kurosawa was one of them, participating in a number of motivated killings of new metahuman types as well as those already suffering persecution in Japan.
It was his bad luck, however, that on a night of drinking one of those opportunistic murders had been the son of Maasaki Watada, lieutenant of the Watada-gumi and himself the son of Akira Watada, the late oyabun. While clinging tightly to "traditional values" themselves, the Watada-gumi could nonetheless tolerate such extrajudicial judgment and violence against a member of the family. Public executions of those involved followed, and Takashi Kurosawa, recognizing the danger, organized an escape to Seattle in order to slip through the rengo's grasp. Though it had cost him his home, his nation, and his culture, he had escaped with his life.
Several years later, still a charismatic street punk, he encounters by chance a Yakuza kaikei while in the drunk tank, who takes an interest in him. He says he's recruiting for the newly formed Kanaga-gumi, forged from the salvaged men and resources left in the wake of Takeo Shigeda of the Shigeda-gumi's assassination, and that with the purge of undesirable metahumans from their ranks (many of whom went on to find a new home in the Kenran-kai), the gumi was in need of good men and new muscle. Though his pregnant soon-to-be-wife objected, Kurosawa began a somewhat lucrative career as a Yakuza enforcer.
Seven years after that, in 2071, his past transgressions against the Watada-rengo come to light. (See Fennec Bueller's Day Off). The oyabun expresses his disappointment, but offers lenience, in exchange for proof of his present loyalty to the clan, and for proof of the death of his old life. With not-so-subtle words, he is instructed to present his pinky to the oyabun, and to arrange for the death of his American wife. A Japanese man not married to a Japanese woman does not espouse their ideals of culture and country, and yet, a man who would lay hands on his wife is no man at all. Better, then, were someone else to do it and spare him the dishonor. He made the call, arranged through proxy after proxy for a gang as far away from the Yakuza as possible to do the hit, and slept easy. His child, Koichi Kurosawa, witnessed it first hand, and fell into shock for years to come.
Back in the oyabun 's good graces, he rose swiftly. Presently, he enjoys a position as shategashira, commander of the gumi 's foot soldiers and enforcement. He has re-married a niece of the oyabun, and enjoys a place among Sato Kanaga's closest family.
Aspects Description
Aspect | Description |
---|---|
Don't Talk Back | Kurosawa-san is a man of the family, and keeps his priorities as such. Requests made to Takashi for tasks or jobs that do not directly benefit the Kanaga-gumi have a 25% chance to be outright refused or ignored. Those requests that are accepted accumulate twice as many chips to be paid off. |
Cyberware | Personal and business connections are abundant for a Yakuza with ware. |
Yakkity Yak | As Shategashira of the Kanaga-gumi, Takashi has the power to mobilize an intimidating amount of muscle. He himself isn't a stranger to enforcement either. |
Automatic Firearms | What Yakuza doesn't know where to find a decent gun? |
Handguns | Guns of all sorts. |
Long Arms | Short and long! |
Blades | Kurosawa especially enjoys keeping the tradition of the samurai alive in the Sixth World. |
