Summary
Background
Cairn really wanted to complete his set of vintage battletech figures.
The Meet
John and Buck were out drinking when Cairn stopped by while Buck was taking a piss, commanding him to find his lair and find "a part of a whole". Because why should anything in their lives be normal?
They drive out to a sewer grate where they meet with Cairn as Poe arrives. Cairn tells us something was broken and we need to find the missing thing(s). Cairn shows them a small box of figurines of mechs, with one of them missing. They wants us to find it where it is located in Kirkland, Bellevue.
Gross. Rich people. After discussion with Cairn, it's not that the dodad was stolen... the spirit just wants to complete the set.
The Plan
Legwork:
- Poe does a matrix search on the toy we're trying to find and realizes it's a pre crash game called Battletech. John rolls his eyes hard enough to give himself eye strain.
- John summons a F6 Spirit of Air and sets it to search for the toy. Unfortunately his spirit critical glitches due to John's Bad Luck and sends them to a KE station.
- Poe oversummons a F8 Spirit of Man and does the same, leading to a Large 2 story House in Kirkland with a F8 ward.
- They realize the house is owned by Ambroise Cohen who seems very paranoid. F8 Wards. Turrets. Laser tripwires. John doesn't trust it.
- Poe has the spirit of man case the place while we have it. Basement, two floors, variety of magical items. Ward on basement, heavily reinforced door. Toy appears to be downstairs. Mana Aspect of an overworked Seagull ( "Mine!" )
- Poe calls his girlcat / catfriend Miut to sort out a T6 Matrix search for us on Amber Croissant (aka Abroise Cohen). He is a collector of magical artifacts, fascinated with darker aspects of magic, and has collected a few magical items that "would be better lost". No particular on site security, we hope.
- Miut finds there are tripbeams, cameras, locked doors, as well as floor plans and generally makes the local host her bitch
The Plan:
- Sneak in
- Break in
- ???
- Profit
The Run
With Miut on matrix overwatch, the team sneaks in. Poe covers them with an invisibility spell and concealment. Buck leads the charge as they head into the house to rob the place blind. They realize someone is upstairs asleep and so trust to the silence spell to cover them. They get the vault door open and as the boys realized the mana aspect of the place was aligned to death, the entire group of them became very, very, nervous.
Once the boys grab the "figurines", they come to live as monstrous murder spirits. A quick silence spell from Poe covers the team and the boys unleashed. John finally casts his first combat spell with the boys as he manabolts the spirits alongside the rest of the boys fighting.
Under sustained fire from Buck, the main "maurader" spirit falls and the boys bail as fast as metahumanly possible.
Aftermath
The boy get the item back to Cairn without much difficulty and then go return to their drinking!
