Summary
The team meets with Moreau and head to Canada to handle a fascist protest outside the museum containing the target item. The team captures the fascist organizers and some of the Hellsouls MCT. The team brings in a disguise specialist from Seattle before going on a day trip to the museum and stealing the spike in broad daylight.
Background
Carleton Moreau created a posting on the Shadowhaven BBS looking for runners to meet at Cherry's Shakes in Redmond. He's planning to reawaken an old ghost train which will enable him to transport freight all across Canada at a blistering pace after the runners steal the silver railroad spike.
The Meet
The team slowly arrives at Cherry's Shakes. Carleton offers the team a job where they'll need to acquire a railway spike. He mentions that there is an officer Andre that might be able to assist the team, but he's a law-abiding citizen who won't work with the team if he discovers that they're shadowrunners. He offers 20k nuyen, and Trades engages in negotiation and manages to secure housing, transport on his private jet, and the usage of a vehicle for the team during their time in Montreal. Ty brings up that Canada has a strong prejudice towards non-metahumans. A facist group has been protesting the Cree treaties, but there's been tension with anti-facist counter-protesters. Carleton recommends that the team cooperate with the officer to arrest some of the fascist ringleaders to reduce the level of security. The police officer would like to see the arrest completed within a week, but the actual theft has a longer time-frame.
The Plan
The team heads to the airfield to ride Carleton's private jet to Gatineau. They're given the counterfeit spike for the museum, and reconvene. Once the plane is in the air, the team forwards some questions to the police officer in Quebec and receives some answers to their preliminary questions. They determine that the three ringleaders of the fascist organization are John Bobson, Jean Dupois, and Jan Prows, a hermetic mage, "Big Walt". Thunder casts a few support spells on the technomancers. Funk registers a R6 data sprite, while Trades registers a pair of R4 machine sprites. While The team finds out from Carleton that the grand plan is to reawaken a ghost train which will let them smuggle freight all across the trans-Canadian railway.
The Run
The team arrives at the safehouse in Ottowa, while Thunder converses with Camille, the owner, and finds out that Carleton has been organizing the counter-protesters. The team meets with the Andre outside the hideout of the Hellsouls. He requests that the team's magical folks see the faces of two of the ringleaders in order to identify the targets astrally. Ty swaps to their fox-shifter form and sneaks over to the target's armadillo and persuades them to open the door and gets a good assensing on the rigger. Thunder and Ty successfully assense the adept and FLR Samurai as they enter the vehicle. Right as the door closes, the team catches the words, "Pratt & Whitney Sundowner"
Funk follows up with a search on those mysterious words and quickly reveals that it's an aerial chemical spraying drone. Meanwhile, Trades hacks the rigger's RCC and their burner commlinks to establish a snoop and trace the RCC back to the fascist's apartment. The team goes to lunch with Andre to share their information, and he requests that the team bust the fascists and let the police claim the credit. The team overhears them through one of the hacked commlinks discussing their plan to use noxious gas to perform a terrorist attack to close the museum for months. Funk calls in some assistance from one of their contacts to aid them in masquerading as a maintenance man in order to use their skinlink to hack some cameras near the Hellsouls hideout. Once the team reconvenes, Funk detects a group of Hellsouls members heading towards the apartment, so the team scrambles into the armadillo to race to the apartment. The team beats the gangers there, and get into a brief firefight with the fascists before they secure them. The rigger sent out a command to a drone during the fighting, so Trades hacked the Sundowner that was being launched. Thunder arranged with Andre for the drone to be landed and secured.
With the motorcycle gang fast approaching, the team begins setting up an ambush. Trades hijacks the rigger's rotodrone. During the ambush, Ty kills one of the gangers before Thunder knocks out the mage. The last one surrenders. Trades delivers threats to the conscious ganger while Thunder calls Vincent "Vinnie" Moreau to coerce them into taking the Canadian equivalent of the fifth. The team makes patches to the flooring, wraps up the body and books it with the bike and drone. Ty ends up calling Bellerophon and owes them a chip in order to handle the body. That night, Trades takes ownership of the drone. The next morning, Thunder orders some more reagents. Funk begins doing some matrix legwork while Trades begin transferring ownership of the bike to him. Trades successfully transfers ownership of the bike to Funk. Trades and Funk spend the next day registering some sprites.
Thunder calls in one of his contacts, Bat'Wejoto, to help the team handle making disguises for their museum trip. The team heads to the museum for a day trip. Thunder, Ty, and Trades tour the museum while Funk takes up residence in one of the toilets. Funk and Trades pick up marks on the security host by skinlinking to devices and disable the security on the spike. Ty throws up an illusion for the cameras and quickly swaps the two spikes. The team makes their escape and drops off the spike with Carleton.
Aftermath
The Hellsouls MCT having lost one of their respected leaders to the runner's involvement were angered. Carleton Moreau successfully acquired the spike and began advancing his plan to summon the ghost train.
