Overview

Francis served his days in Christian Outreach, helping others and spreading the word of God. It was a good life, fulfilling and meaningful, until, things changed. While in Redmond one night, he was ambushed and drained by unknown infected. Left for dead, he rose again, changed. Horrified with his new nature and scared of what was to come, he managed to tell his brother, another mage of the Church, what had happened, his shame overwhelming.

The brother, Augustus, wasn't content to let this stand. Wanting his brother to be free of his curse, he delved deep into forbidden magical archives, searching for something, anything, that promised a means. He found something, eventually. Something he should have left buried. Taken in by a being beyond his ken, Augustus's mental state degenerated. When Francis lost contact with his brother, he gathered a team of runners, pooling his life savings to save his family.

His brother ultimately did not survive, killed by the runners sent to save him, an unfortunate but necessary reaction as the team fought for their life. The team mainly went their own way after this, but Swerve, one of the runners, saw a kindred spirit. Another infected, one abandoned at the change like her, she needed to help him. Swerve kept in contact with him, and eventually pestered him enough to take him to the Night Throne. While the work and environment might be unpleasant, especially for someone with his moral character, it would provide a refuge, a place where he could find food and a home safe from hunters.

Francis now is affiliated with the faction, still deeply conflicted about his nature and his place in the world, but, living still.
