Character Information
Summary
A former KE officer with strange abilities and stranger visions that she doesn't really understand, Asura is a muscle who focuses on taking the brunt of the punishment from OPFOR for those she's working with. Her cybernetic body is moderately strong and helps her perform exceptional feats of marksmanship. She's well versed in security tactics and has a great tenacity for getting the job done. Though, she can be very antisocial even on her best days, and her time as a former officer has led to her being abrasive towards most other runners. But she has to deal with that now. The things in her life she can't explain and the feelings that arise from it can't be overlooked. She left everything behind to find those answers. She can't stop now, even if she disagrees with the ethics.
Goals
- Find out the truth about her past
- Learn what it is that gives her these strange visions
- Work with Bolt to try and make this place better, even if it feels wrong to work with shadowrunners
Background
“Asura”
That was the first thing she said when a couple of Knight Errant officers picked her up at the edge of Seattle’s border when they asked her for her name. Poor girl was singed, broken, and crippled all over. If it weren’t for one Captain Marcus Avera. A seasoned vet who looked into the strange gray eyes of the dying woman they had brought back from patrols and saw a fighter. A girl with potential. Fierce and determined, even as she couldnt move. He had asked her some questions about herself, what happened to her, what she was doing, but the poor girl didnt know anything. No life, no purpose, no one to turn to. And…the old man felt for her. His own lack of a family, 50 years in…stung. So…he gave the girl a chance to start a new life with a new name, if she could prove her worth. And once they patched her up and replaced her ruined body with a cybernetic one, she did so swimmingly.
The silver-eyed brunette was tested in her new body, and when she proved highly skilled and highly competent with an FBR set up, Captain Avera had her sent back to Detroit to serve as an officer of the Knight Errants in the home base. A cushy job where he could ensure she received the care needed and had the amenities to adjust to a new, shocking life. But she took to the matter of a protector with unexpected aplomb. It was like she was born for the position, fiercely protective of those under her care, willing to put her life on the line time and time again. The adopted Ellie Avera was a fierce combatant, ruthless in her dismantling of enemy forces and quite skilled and coordinating a small team to take down threats to public safety like shadowrunners or organized criminal organizations. She became well known in the Knights for her service and quick climbing of the ranks. Some thought it was her adopted father’s nepotism, some believed it was her single-minded approach to the force and ability to just keep going. But regardless of how she reached the lips and thoughts of her co-workers, “the Guard Dog Demon” became quite the name in the short time she was in the force. Ellie made quite a life for herself. She often spent her free time with her proud father and those in her unit, enjoyed a relatively well off lifestyle as one of the best in her rank, and felt as if she was making a difference. She was safe when not at work, content to continue this life until she could not any longer.
If only that were true.
In reality, what others did not see was her internal turmoil to make sense of what her eyes showed her. What her mind told her. What her dreams brought her. When she squinted she saw colors from the people around her that felt like she could read them, and slowly began to experiment without understanding what it was. Sometimes when she did that, her ears rang with the hauntingly beautiful calling of “Asura” beckoning her towards…something. And when she dreamed, she dreamed of striking, beautiful eyes, fiery and commanding, staring back at her from a strikingly pale face. It all made Asura’s heart tremble. She had never managed to produce anything magical or empower herself through the astral, so it wasn’t like she was magical, right? So…why? Why these visions? Why does she see and hear things that aren’t really there?
Why is she…longing for more? Ellie and Marcus both knew that she was experiencing these things for a reason. Something in her past life. Something back in Seattle. And without knowing what…Ellie would never know peace. So, with heavy hearts, Marcus once again sent her away, had her leave the force entirely so she wouldn’t be at their beck and call. To give her the free reign to fix this. Her father gave her the connections she needed to make a difference and get to the bottom of all this-an old comrade of his, Bolt, along with a doctor to help her keep her body well maintained and a supplier for new cyber if she needed it. He let her keep her on duty pistol, as well as helped her smuggle her favorite shotgun to keep her safe. She made her way back to Seattle, an aching in her heart.
There was no turning back now.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
<Guard Dog Demon (Legendary Rep, KE Detroit)>
Asura, or Ellie Avera as she was known back in the Knight Errants, managed to make quite a name for herself when she was in the ranks. Her dedication to the job, her sheer ruthlessness, and her willingness to do whatever it took to herself or others to see it done was something else. A lot of people heard some stories about her handle and came up with the nickname since she would basically serve as a client or establishment's guard dog without question.
<The Past is Still Alive (Prototype Transhuman/Biocompatability(Cyberware))>
It was clear to Marcus when he first found the girl that she wasn't exactly normal. Her body had been altered, tailored, but by whom he didn't know. And neither did his newfound daughter. At first that didn't matter to them. But the little oddities stuck out and built up over time. A constant reminder to them both that Asura had something to confront still.
Negative
<Haunted by the Unknown ((Driven(Finding out the truth of the visions)/Flashbacks 1 (Fighting against Magic users))>
Every night, she's reminded of something she can't quite remember. Imprinted on her. Something she could never forget. And yet, she can never quite grasp what it is. Who was she before KE? Where did she come from? Why was she crippled when they found her? So, so many questions linger in her mind. She would do anything to find the answers to them. Even if it kills her.
<Former Knight Errant (SINner (Corporate, Ares), Prejudiced (Biased, Common, Criminals))>
Being re-raised as a Knight Errant, fighting against criminal elements, and seeing the only people she knew since she was picked up be injured or worse at the hands of shadowrunners, syndicate members, and gangsters makes it fairly hard for her to interact with those people nowadays. She won't say anything out loud but...she's still a Knight Errant. For now, at least.

Enemies
While she's bound to make enemies due to her attitude and her former connections, she has others she is yet unaware of. Ones she hopes to find soon. And deal with accordingly.

Matrix Search Table
Threshold | Result |
---|---|
1 | Looking up the name Asura doesn't seem to pull anything up, beyond some sparse media usage. She doesn't actually use the matrix much at all it seems |
3 | There are some mentions of someone who went by Asura in the Knight Errants. No pictures of herself on there or anything without any armor. But safe to say she's possibly one of them. |
6 | Definitely Knight Errants, but the oddity here is that she was almost dropped into them out of nowhere, like she was freelance but never left. She doesn't *exist* beyond that. Not just in their records-anywhere. |

1 | Mm. New face, not super social. Just another cold machine kind of muscle that's all "strong and silent" |
3 | She has this attitude like she thinks she's better than everyone else. Real annoying. Like she's judging the rest of us. Seems she gets along fine with a few groups of fixers though. Bolt in particular she's tolerant of and seems to not want to throw out a window. |
5 | She's pretty damn reluctant to say much of why she's here but...well, people can kinda tell she isn't doing this work for the money. Something pushed her into this. Not like, she was forced to be here-she's after something. At the very least that's enough to keep her from being too much of a liability but...one has to be wary around sketchy people like that. |

SINs
R1: Ellie Avera (Ares)
R4: Jenny Harriet (UCAS)
Appearance
Clothing
A 5'10" FBR woman, her most standout features beyond the heavy cybernetics going from the back of the head and chin down to her replacement toes is her grey eyes. She has chocolatey brown hair, a sweet contrast to her silver, black, and red armor. Often she wears a black hooded coat along with military style boots, pants, and button up shirt to hide her cybernetics for her socialization. She is a rather reserved individual on her free time, especially with those she doesn't fully trust yet as her companions, but on missions she is a rather vicious and upfront woman. On her alone time, she prefers to just keep the clothes off since the cybernetic shell isn't exactly risque and the stuffy feeling bothers her.
Matrix Persona
A fiery red looking demon with the head of a bloodhound. Insisted upon by her friends back in the force.
