Overview

Croak is a big guy, with a bright green frog's head, a round center, and long webbed limbs sprouting in all directions. After all his modifications, most of this body is some kind of metal. His internals are plated in the finest materials he can find, and his malformed half-amphibian joints have been replaced with reliable chrome. Croak acts as a heavy for the Morlocks when things get rough, but his real passion is transhumanism. Usually, this comes in the form of helping other Changelings find self acceptance -- whether through massive chrome like him, or just gene-therapies. When times get really bad, Croak has some old scotch and a war story from the old days. Not exactly a comforting presence, but someone who understands the pain.

When the comet came, he was 24. Just old enough to have a job to lose and girlfriend to leave him. Growing up a poor Ork had been hard enough, but after he changed, he didn't even have his community to fall back on. The people who stayed by him were few and far between, and too many of them got shot over some rivalry or another. Croak joined the Morlocks in the early days, ready to die for the cause, but he never could. He put the other guy first every time for a decade, and survived mostly accidentally. Now, he's 'retired', working the backrooms, making sure young blood doesn't spill too quick, and that people like him can reclaim their bodily autonomy.

GM Notes

  • Croak really only cares about a few things: Changelings & their community, Transhumanism, shiny chrome, Ork rights, and his dog Blue.
  • While extremely sympathetic to various social issues, Croak is still a jaded man who was fought and bled just for his right to exist. He is not polite, and only pleasant to those he knows personally.
  • Any corporate or governmental sympathy, or explicit notions of any authoritarian ideology will result in immediate hostility. (i.e. getting kicked out of his shop, refused service, etc.)

Gettin' Old Services may take longer. Every time the contact provides a service, roll 2D6. The normal amount of time that it would take to provide the service is multiplied by the resulting number.
Know Where You Live The Fight is bigger than all of us. You better keep on the right side of the line. Croak is a (nearly) lifelong member of the Morlocks, and heavily entrenched in the Ork Underground as a neighborhood. He will never work against the people of his neighborhood, the Morlocks, Skrachaa, or the SINless in general. In a conflict between these groups, the Morlocks are the highest authority.
Bonafides Only The cost to upgrade this contact's loyalty is doubled unless the character has either visible cyberware or the Distinctive Style quality. Loyalty costs are also doubled for any character with a Corporate or Corporate Limited SIN.
Cannot Abide Idiocy The reckless and hateful tend to get break things around them, and get squashed at a higher rate than usual. Any bad news counts double when dealing with Croak. Notoriety has a double penalty when dealing with him: subtract twice the runner's Notoriety from any check he is asked to do.
Binocular Vision Croak has a keen eye for quality, and a habit of collecting anything that strikes his interest, with the idea that he'll sell it eventually. He's got 20 years of backlog in his shop, including rare and obscure pieces of many varieties. Croak has a +2 on tests relating to items of availability 16 or higher.
New Evolution Shed your old skin. It's time to become who you were always meant to be. Croak gains +2 on tests relating to augmentations.
Aposematism No point in hiding, chummer. Your every irregularity will get sniffed out anyway. Might as well go loud and proud. Croak gains +2 on tests relating to Cyberware.
Tadpole Needs Sometimes God needs a helping hand rounding out the biology of his creations. Changelings are especially prone to these kinds of issues. Croak gains a +2 on tests relating to Geneware or Bioware.
Metamorphosis Every day we wake as a new version of ourselves. Why pretend otherwise? Croak has a +2 on any test to upgrade existing augmentations.
In Torpor In the old days, Croak was a heavy for the Morlocks. Getting the crew out of many jams, and taking on Humanis and Corpsec teams with minimal backup. While his Orkish lifespan is catching up with him, his chrome still works, and he's grown into a hell of a battlefield medic. He can still be counted on in grave emergencies. Croak has a +2 during any life saving procedures or to assist in extraction. However, he will refuse to assist unless he believes the situation is truly dire.
