Kanaga-gumi
Faction Information
Summary
Built out of the rubble of the Shigeda-gumi after Takeo Shigeda's assassination, the Kanaga-gumi is the second largest Yakuza clan in Seattle, and perhaps among its most hardline adherents to the ways of the Old School. Many speculate that the current oyabun, Sato Kanaga, deliberately arranged for his predecessor's assassination as a protest against the eccentric and inclusive philosophy of the New Way espoused by the Shigeda-gumi, though few will dare to make such accusations aloud. After the dissolution of the Shigeda-gumi, the newly formed Kanaga-gumi forcibly expelled all women and metavariants from within its clans ranks, many of whom were instead received and adopted by the Kenran-kai. As a result, there exists a lot of bad blood between the two clans even a decade down the line.
Despite the Shigeda-gumi's alliance with the Shotozumi-rengo, and despite Sato Kanaga's allied assent to the decree of Shotozumi-gumi oyabun Hanzo Shotozumi that the Seattle clans are independent from the rule of their mainland Japanese predecessors, the Kanaga-gumi do not align themselves with the Shotozumi-rengo, and operate largely independently.
The Kanaga-gumi operate primarily in the industries of drug trade and gambling dens, although are no strangers to the sex trade either. Their primary territories rest on the West and North districts of Seattle, most notably Auburn, Snohomish, and Everett. They also boast a not-insignificant presence in the Redmond Barrens.
Goals
Secure existing territory, expand operations, and break into new markets. Even Old School yaks can't deny the money to be made in the trade of illicit magical artifacts, after all, and there are always new bunraku parlors to be built.

Background
(WIP - Borrowed from https://shadowsea.obsidianportal.com/characters/sato-kanaga)
Sato Kanaga was born in Chiba, Japan and emigrated to Seattle in the 2050s at the behest of Watada-sama. He was tasked with helping to expand the yakuza influence in Seattle, and given a small cadre of Koreans to help with his work.
Kanaga worked hard and fast, and was one of those responsible for the rapid expansion of the yakuza in Seattle. When Hanzo Shotozumi declared the Seattle yakuza separate from the Japanese rengo, Kanaga was one of those that supported the decision.
He only recently came into power as his own oyabun though, following the assassination of Takeo Shigeda. Rumor has it that Kanaga may have been involved in Shigeda’s assassination, but nothing has ever been proven. What is known is that Kanaga took over Shigeda’s former power base and assets, and quickly declared his loyalty to Shotozumi.
Kanaga is extremely conservative, and does not support or endorse any non-Japanese, non-male, non-human members in his gumi. After taking power, he purged the “undesirables” out of the ranks of the Kanaga-gumi. Several people were killed in the process, but also many of these people were reassigned to the Kenran-kai.
Because of his extremely traditional values and the “Little Purge” that took place in his ranks, Kanaga is occasionally called “Little Akira” after the head of the Watada-rango that sent him to Seattle in the first place. No one dares call him “Little Akira” within earshot though.
