Summary

The runner's travel to Berlin to investigate the origins of an aretefact that has gone up for sale at an auction house. They confirm that it's a counterfeit, find the person who sold it to the auction house and wrung a confession out of him.

Background

A pirate artefact, known as Störtebeker’s Chalice, has surfaced for sale at a moving auction house in AGS, Berlin. The Johnson has hired the runners to verify the authenticity and origins of the artefact.

The Meet

Backseat, Baji, Ducky and Huntress appear in a virtual matrix meeting room with Elara van der Meer (the J). She provides the details of the job. An item claimed to be Störtebeker’s Chalice, has gone up for sale at a moving Auction house known as "The Cabinet" in AGS, Berlin. The chalice belonged to a pirate who was executed in the 1400s and has moderate historical value, however it would be priceless if found to have magical properties. The J wants the runners to attend the auction in order to verify it's authenticity and origin. The J arranges flights to Berlin for the runners, introduces contacts to them that could provide assistance and provides a passcode for them to attend the auction.

The Plan

The group head to the airport to board their flight to Berlin and plan out the run. While waiting for their flight, they meet a troll baby metal group and Flipster, a music promoter. When talking to him, the group discover the locations of several venues where intel could be gathered. After landing in Berlin, Rahjid, a contact of the J and taxi driver comes to pick them up. He recommends a high end hotel they can stay at. The plan is made to check in at the hotel and split up to perform legwork.

Baji and Ducky head to a club frequented by pirates and coyotes to gather intel on the auction house, where they find it is run by a pirate gang based out of the North Sea. The auction house is on a boat the "Blaue Lagune". They gain a second passcode for the auction. They also gain intel that 3 of the items for sale are fakes.

Backseat heads to Babylon, a club for Berlin's high society. There Backseat finds lots of talk and interest about the auction and current affairs in the North Sea. He learns that wealthy collectors and academics will be attending.

Huntress performs physical recon of site where the auction boat will be docking, a harbourside park marketplace controlled by Turkish organised crime. She finds everyone in the marketplace armed, from turkish locals to anarchists and travellers with bodyguards. No magical security is found.

The next morning the team enjoy a hotel buffet breakfast before Backseat and Baji accompany Ducky to the riverside to summon a wild spirit of the river to assist them in verifying the item. The deal was that Ducky would offer herself to be drowned by the spirits, however unknown to the spirits, she has an internal airtank which keeps her alive. Annoyed, they still agree to hold on to their end of the deal.

The Run

With the auction boat arriving, the run begins in earnest. The team board the boat, awaiting the start of the auction, they mingle with the other prospective buyers. Baji and Ducky appraoch two witches, with Baji managing to attract the liking of one of them and scoring her commcode. Backseat and Huntress talk to a drake, fixer assassin and two other rich attendees although none of them have relevant intel on the Chalice. Huntress sneaks off to attempt to infiltrate the boat. She manages to datatap a security camera. Ducky contacts her hacker contact to assist with accessing the boats security system. Through the surveillance footage, she finds the chalice located in the storage room. To provide a distraction for Huntress to sneak in, Baji and Backseat start a loud argument over whether a particular item is authentic a lot. This attracts the attention of security who kick them out, however it provides Huntress an opporunity to gain access to the storage room, where she finds details on the seller of the Chalice, who goes by the name of "Kessler".

Backseat begins cycling through knowsofts to find that he is a known forger and figure in Berlin's party scene. It now becomes obvious to the group that the Chalice is a fake and the group contacts Flipster (who is clued into the party scene) who suggests that he could be found at Berghain, Berlin's premier BDSM club. The team contact Red Stare, who manage to procure some attire appropriate to the venue (in this case BDSM fetish wear). As they enter the club, Huntress and Backseat spot Kessler on the dance floor where he gains a liking to Huntress. The stoic soldier, unaccustomed to seduction, nevertheless manages to pique his interest, leading him to a BDSM room. Here, the group coerces him into restraints where they force him to call the J and admit to producing the fake artefact, thus completing the run.

Aftermath

The J offers herself as a contact if the team geek him however the team are uncomfortable with doing so, instead taking payment from Kessler to let him go. Surprisingly, the J appears relieved that they did not go through with her request and offers herself as a contact regardless.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Backseat: "Almost an honest living working that job. I had travel and accommodation covered, partied in Berlin and didn't have to geek anyone. We barely even broke any laws."

Baji: "I wouldn't have minded working for Fraulein Schmidt in the future but the last ask put me off. Money was good and the amenities were fantastic. She hires good help as well, that was a top notch team. Huntress' personal hygiene could use some improvement, but her seduction of Keller was a master class in *hard to get*. If backseat doesn't know it now he will in 15 seconds. As for Ducky .... well words fail me and I do improv for a living. I'll party with her any time."

Huntress: "Captain, the run went successful. We were flown towards Berlin, Germany with our full gear accounted for during the flight. We were to retrieve information on a seller of an item that possess historical origins. Though magical origins is also likely. As per usual I performed Reconnaissance for most of the sites and infiltrated the vessel certain items were being held. Without being detected due to my fellow runners' involvement. We then had to... receive word from an individual related to the seller so we headed into a... ummm... a... I'm alright sir. We headed into a... place of relaxation where I had to wear... compromising attire and... allure the target to a room. Where the other runners managed to retrieve information from him. Afterwards the run was deemed a success. That is all to report, sir."
