Overview
Summary
A hard-assed and hyper efficient Ares executive working in the shadows to expand her influence. She sees the Invae problem in upper leadership as an opportunity; if she can stomp those insects out, then she'll be the one to claim their spot.
Background
Some people become corpos to live a life of luxury. Miriam Kazan does it for the thrills. Ever since she was a kid she's been excited by the cutthroat world of Ares Macrotechnology, with its swaggering executives and their often deadly power plays. Upon graduating college she landed in the company's sales division and quickly set about carving a place for herself at the top. She pursues profit by any means necessary, dealing arms to governments and criminals alike; she sells to both sides of any given conflict so that she always comes out on top. Her career's been built on tens of thousands of bodies and she doesn't feel a second of remorse. She won, they lost. That's just how the game is played.
As a high ranking Ares executive, Kazan is well aware of the true situation in Chicago. She has strong suspicions about the Invae in her corp's leadership, which were recently confirmed by an awakened spy under her employ. Rather than being concerned she sees this as the opportunity of a lifetime. Interplanar monsters or not the bugs are playing her game, and if she plays her cards right she'll be perfectly justified in murdering her direct superiors. Kazan firmly believes that metahumanity will triumph over the Invae, and she seeks to make herself the CEO of Ares in the process
Notes for a GM
- Kazan has the personality of a bull shark. She's aggressive, confident, and ruthlessly efficient; she demands competence and professionalism from her associates, and won't hesitate to dress them down if her standards aren't met. Her authority is backed by both her corporate influence and the mil-spec security that typically follows her around. Arms dealing's a dangerous business.
- Kazan is an open fascist, believing that the strong have absolute dominion over the weak. She doesn't discriminate based on "irrelevant factors" (metatype, awakening, etc.), but those who she doesn't consider useful are spare blood at best. This mindset enables her to make some truly merciless decisions when the situation calls for it.
Aspects Description
Aspect | Description |
---|---|
Shameless Cutthroat | Kazan, to put it bluntly, couldn't care less about anyone else's well being. Her relationships are purely transactional, exchanges of power to be dropped the second they cease to become profitable. CDP costs to raise this contact's loyalty are doubled. |
Do I Look Like A Charity? | Kazan doesn't do favors. Everything has a cost, and if you want it you're gonna be paying up front. No matter what her loyalty is she will never loan out gear or accept being paid at a later date. You'll have your gear once the credstick's in her hands, and not a second before. |
Corporate Woman | Kazan isn't just any an dealer, she's an arms dealer for Ares fraggin' Macrotechnology. +2 to all gear rolls made to acquire Ares products. |
God Bless the UCAS | For all her problems with the UCAS, Kazan is still a firm believer in the citizen's right to bear arms. Ah, who are we kidding? She doesn't give a fuck if it's legal or not, just as long as you'll pay. +2 to all gear rolls to acquire restricted and forbidden firearms. |
Cogs in the Machine | Kazan loves her brainware, and loves having cybered up security even more. While she can't give delta clinic access (yet) she's got just about everything else. +2 to all gear rolls made to acquire cyberware and bioware. |
Fireworks | For all the backroom deals and boardroom maneuvering that Kazan does, sometimes the best solution is just blowing the problem up. +2 to gear rolls made to aquire explosives. |
Modern Warfare | Drones are, in Kazan's eyes, the ideal soldier: they're unfeeling, remorseless, and follow their orders to the letter. The profit margins that come from selling them aren't too bad either. +2 to all gear rolls made to aquire drones. |
Little Black Book | Whether it's a phone book or a hit list (spoilers: it's both), Kazan keeps an extensive list of contacts within her corporation. +2 to networking checks involving members of Ares Macrotechnology. |
Borders are More of a Suggestion | Kazan's moved her products all over the world and has the network to show for it. +2 to networking checks involving smugglers and gun runners. |
