Doc Mnc
GM style
Hey. I'm Doc Mnc a bit of a black trench coat DM though as soon as vehicles come out I do tend to quite happily get rather more Pink trench coat. I'm big on presenting runs that makes sense in the world as that's part of what drew me to shadowrun. Pre-warning i'm relatively new to running shadowrun and the magic especially is a bit of a mystery to me at the moment.
Runner Selection
- My first priority when picking runners is thinking through who the fictional J would pick
- My second priority is ensuring an even balance of members. This usually comes through in moderating what would be the J's picks to ensure a team who makes sense in character while still matching the challenges out of character
- I'm willing to select runners that will derail a run but this comes with the caveat. The j's the one paying you (not me) so doing this is often going to rob you and the team of their rewards
- Selecting runners who'll turn down the job at the meet - if you think you're likely to do this please don't app. A key team member turning down the meet can result in a scramble to find a new player or going ahead missing a role. That said if you think you'll pick accept the job but decide not too once you get more info that's fine.
Run Content
So you're going to see two main types of runs from me.
Run content: type 1 The first is black trench coat runs drawn from a basis in the world. When designing these i work outwards from imagined budgets, cost cutting, and security priorities/incompetence. The focus of these runs is on runner being runners doing runner business. So their content will often be extractions, data theft, sabotage, theft, or wetwork. The execution of the runs will also place an emphasis on making a plan and hittin the small details. On these runs the risk of things escalating will sometimes be present though i'll indicate it in advance. Examples are HTR response teams if the job location is in a security zone. Rewards: type 1 So on these runs the J will generally offer a pay that will equal the lower end of the RVP band for the threat level with room for negotiation, acquisition of pay data and anything else runners can pull to make some extra cash.
Run content: Type 2 The second is vehicular chaos. I like vehicle set pieces in ttrpg's and I LOVE riggers so you'll sometimes see far more pink mohawk runs out of me where I'm focusing the fun that can be had just leaning into the silliness that is shadowrun sometimes. On these runs you should expect fast cars, explosions and all things rigger (but especially chases). There's much less focus on the attention to detail in these so players are more free to simply indulge the riggerness. Rewards: Type 2 With these the pay will generally be offered up front. Since the focus is more on the fast paced aspects rewards with clear conditions for bonuses will be laid out at the beginning of the run. A good example is a 2 RVP bonus for winning a race that the run involved participating in.
Threat level
If you haven't already read it, check out the ShadowHaven wiki entry on Run Threat Descriptions.
I'll do my best to stick to these. My runs make heavy use of the guidelines to gauge how stiff the opposition should be (though they'll still act smart) so even lower power characters should be good to join in, if they suit the style. By this I mean a black trench coat mindset, with good tactics, can carry you a long way on my trench coat runs. While on the rigger runs anyone who can drive a car or is happy to ride shotgun is welcome to join in.
ESCALATING: This is a possible consequence on my black trench coat runs. Mistakes can get HTR response teams, internal security teams or other complications on your tail. These are not a positive as they're likely to endanger your health and interfere with your job. The interference with the job also means you're more likely to fail and lose your pay. So I emphasise that escalation is possible and it is not a positive. Rewards are a an IC calculation (guided by ooc guidelines) and mistakes will not make the J pay you more.
