Background

Her life started rather differently than most other elves, a side project for one of Renraku's elite scientists, trying to see what he could do to propel humanity into the future. He did make a few mistakes, however, Calypso having had trouble sleeping from day 1, basically. But, she was his project, and as such, he was compelled to raise her. By the time she'd reached adulthood, they'd learned all they could from her, and so released her to fend for herself on the streets.

Like many others, she found her way into the shadows, taking odd jobs here and there, working her way up from the streets, into a cheap dive apartment, and then her own little shack, and finally a respectable townhome in a decent neighborhood. Then, she started saving her money, wanting to earn enough to retire on. This slush fund wound up saving her life, when things went sideways in the worst way.

Her Shadowrun team was making their exfil from a Zero-Zero zone in Puyallup, using a VTOL they'd stolen from the same corp. This led to a rather intense chase, with lots of other enemy vehicles, the intense firefight only having one resolution. The VTOL they were escaping in took critical damage, and her luck ran out. Most of her team managed to bail out, but her harness refused to release until moments before it hit the ground. The impact twisted the frame of the VTOL, crushing her legs, some of the electrical wiring shorting through her arms on the way to the chassis of the VTOL. Her team arrived seconds later, and saw that they had to act fast to save her life... If she was still alive. Acting quickly, the Sam cut off her legs, freeing her from the wreckage. They made an urgent call, and found there was a local street doc just a block away, a strange Troll that most contacts didn't trust, but desperate times call for desperate measures. They dropped her off, and then left to draw pursuit away.

He wound up saving her life... But at the cost of leaving her a basket case. Which is where her savings came in. He managed to get her hooked up with enough ware that she could get up and move around on her own, beginning a rather long recovery, during which time she commissioned a set of specialized modular limbs that would help her in her future running endeavors. After all, she had a retirement to save up for!
