Summary

In which Fidem is attacked in her home by a vampire. Slaying ensues.

Background

In Take Back the Night, Fidem was part of a team of runners which attacked a vampire nightclub, killing several of the infected in the process and taking the owner prisoner. In Upon This Rock I Shall Build My Church, the vampire was freed from captivity by The Night Throne, and was given Fidem's address in order to take his revenge. After killing a vagrant to juice up on essence, the vampire changes into mist form and proceeds towards Fidem's penthouse apartment.

We'll Meet Again, Some Sunny Day

Fidem, at home, goes through with her evening routine as if nothing were amiss. After taking care of her symbiotically-bonded plants, she says her nightly prayers and starts to get ready for bed. Quite suddenly, the power to the building goes out, plunging the apartment into darkness; thankfully her cybereyes have low-light and thermal vision enhancements, so she is able to see while she lights some candles, assuming it to be a simple power outage. In truth, the vampire has paid some thugs to tamper with the building's fuse box, and mists its way thorough the poorly-warded HVAC system into Fidem's apartment.

Let the Slaying Commence

While attempting to contact the building superintendent, Fidem's commlink starts to experience interference; as she looks about for the source, the vampire attacks without warning, nearly managing to restrain her in his attempts to rip her neck open. Taunting her about their last encounter (where she was nearly essence drained), his attempts to get under her skin fail as she rushes to her shrine and finds her Templar-crafted sword. Equipped to defend herself, she fights back and forces the vampire onto his back foot - with the help of some wood from her plants, she strikes a wound across his chest, forcing him to retreat for the moment. Having bought a moment of respite, Fidem quickly finds her emergency kami and inhales it, making her way to the rooftop in search of better reception and sending a message to Father Uriel alerting him to the situation.

As the combat stimulants kick in, Fidem prepares herself for a confrontation, gripping her sword tightly and muttering a prayer as the vampire positions himself to strike. Thankfully she notices his ambush this time, attacking back by stabbing him through the heart with her claymore. The vampire's virus and magic-enhanced body manages to stay alive however, and Fidem rushes to think of a solution. Recalling how she handled him the first time around, she baits the vampire into rushing at her while positioned over the glass sunroof to her pool below, then shoves him over the edge at the last moment. Falling through the glass into the water below, the weakened vampire quickly sinks to the bottom and falls into torpor.

Aftermath

Father Uriel soon arrives at Fidem's apartment with a pair of Templars, who proceed to remove the torpor'd vampire and clean up the bloody mess; Uriel congratulates Fidem on her impressive martial performance in defending herself, and offers her further tutelage in the sword as her sensei. She also resolves to find a new apartment.
