Character Information

Summary

A fairly plain, if young, Russian girl. Her English and Japanese are accented, but more than understandable and about as fluent as one could ask for.

In her spare time she often does charity work, such as cleaning and re-tailoring scavenged rags to make functional clothing, or growing food to supplement what she can get a hold of and preserving it to give to others. Coming up with new and creative ways to turn the barest scraps of sustenance into something that will raise spirits is a favorite activity - even if she never eats any of it herself.

Goals

• Get the rep with local gangs/Vory to not be a nobody.
• Organize and protect a neighborhood self-aid group.
• Make contact with and earn the trust of a more experienced shaman to learn from.

Background

Resunotek was, at one point, part of an indigenous Ainu tribe in Russia. While not buried farther in the northern lands, this was certainly out of necessity rather than convenience - they were not large enough, or near a large enough group, to stay entirely away from urban civilization on their own.

The proximity to a cityscape, yet isolation from it through mutual distaste, made them an easy target for roaming Infected, however. Resunotek was among a handful killed, and one of the only (un)lucky enough to get back up afterwards - albeit at a cost of another survivor.

She fled into the city to get free from the scene, as well as find more reliable refuge from the sun and woods, both of which had become deadly for her. Obviously, being fresh on the streets and not very capable on her own, it did not take long like this until she was scooped up by criminal elements.

Resunotek's first appraisal was 'merchandise'. With Vory connections, though, a cursory check for magical talents came soonafter, and with it an upgrade to 'material source and test subject'. A demonstration of how true feeding works for a vampire improved her status further, to 'torture tool', and development of those magical talents finally let her reach the rank of 'potentially useful asset'.

As the Ainu heritage in Russia is, while strong culturally, weak genetically due to assimilation periods in the past, she was very similarly built to an urbanite Russian. Thusly, to support fitting in with the ethnically-purist groups that hold wide sway in Russia, she was renamed Zhanna and passed off as one of them. That said, she is still a vampire - and, years later, when some too-hard evidence slipped out, her presence became inconvenient.

To be proven to be harboring a vampire for use as a criminal tool would be a difficult blow to shrug off to the sub-organization she was in. And, since the rumors got out, they couldn't simply cut her for money - proof would leak too easily and fuel the fire. Thus, she was very quietly shipped overseas to make herself useful in another, remote area of their operations.

And so, she entered Seattle and tried to be of use there. It hasn't been too long, but she's familiarized herself a lot with the local area... and tried to improve it for the people, as little as she can manage for that.

Narrative Significant Qualities

• Infected (Vampire): Zhanna is a human suffering from HMHVV Strain I. Obviously, this causes problems in life.
• Mentor Spirit (Bear): After her family was killed and Zhanna was turned, Bear - as Kim-un-kamuy, god of bears, mountains, and celebrations shared with the gods - took pity on her and raised her the rest of the way. Bear is the source of most of her grasp on and understanding of magic.
• Spirit Bane (Plant): Zhanna believes she is scorned by Shiramba-kamuy and Tokapcup-kamuy alike for her evil nature. Beyond merely an allergy to wood, spirits associated with wood seem to instinctively dislike her and are averse to aiding her. Whether they're merely reflecting her own expectations, or something about her aura happens to tick them off, who can say?
