Summary

The runners are hired by a Johnson associated with the New Century Party to steal volatile research data regarding what MCT has been doing to technomancers, due to MCT being about to file a lawsuit against Angela Darcy, the NCP's governor candidate. Bringing the horrible conditions that MCT subjected technomancers to will sway public opinion and force them to drop the lawsuit.

Background

In the 2070s Angela Darcy did more pro-technomancer direct action, and helped fund a team that rescued some technomancers from an MCT research lab/prison. MCT, fearing the New Century Party might actually win the upcoming election, decided to file a lawsuit claiming she stole 'research materials' while leaving out that these were literal metahumans.

The Meet

The meet takes place over the matrix, with three of the runners meeting up at The Daze before-hand to plan. The fourth runner, Mokumo, stays at his desk job at a Yakuza front company.

The Johnson offers the team 22k nuyen each for extracting the research notes from an offline MCT host in Auburn, but says she cannot pay any more than that. The team agrees.

The Plan

Mokumo (Mokumokuren) hacks the data host of the building (turns out there's 3 hosts: 2 data hosts nested, then an offline host in the basement) then hacks the MCT-branded Doberman drones to get a rough layout of the basement of the building. He's also able to find that a previous team tried to hit this facility and reported that the guards used shotguns with gel slugs (though they also have KRIME penetrator buckshot it later turns out), Cerberus Hounds, spirits, and a mage with a fiberoptic system. Astrid summons a spirit and casts several spells prepping to go in, and the team decides to sneak by the main gate and get to a side door in order to infiltrate the building.

The Run

During the infiltration, the guard at the main gate hears Astrid but cannot see her. However, he unfortunately stumbles into her, but is taken out quickly by Ahriman's laser. Ahriman (Angra Mainyu) briefly checks out the front lobby but cannot spot anywhere to hide, so the team moves on to the side door. After sliding in the dead guard's key-card under the door and having Astrid's spirit materialize on the other side (after Mokumo loops the camera there), the team opens the door. Ahriman and Rurosha manage to get through the Door Ward, but Astrid is repelled, which alerts the mage. Things are now loud.

The team moves quickly through the building and comes up to two of the Doberman drones and two Cerberus Hounds. Combat! Rurosha cuts down the guards that arrive on-scene shortly afterwards while Mokumo provides matrix support, Ahriman takes out the mage *through* their own fiber-optic system due to her laser, and Astrid rescues the puppies and turns them on the guards. The team is elevated from moderate security breach to major security breach.

Rurosha finds a clean room protocol area with a freight elevator heading down, and informs the team. The team bursts in and starts rubbing dirt everywhere on their way down. After they get to the lower floor they realize they're in a Faraday cage, so Ahriman wedges open the elevator door with a crowbar. In the basement, the runners find themselves in an off-the-books miniature delta-clinic. They see three doors, one heavy door leading to the server room, one heavy door leading to cells with 'test subjects 1701 and 1637' inside, and a set of doors leading to the actual surgery suite.

Ahriman uses plastic explosives to blow through the heavy doors so Mokumo can hack the offline host, and Rurosha and Astrid rescue the two test subject technomancers. Mokumo is also able to get paydata in the server valued at 28k nuyen total (7k per runner) on research that led to the creation of the MCT Biolink.

On their way to the ground floor, Mokumo discovers that there's a line of Doberman drones ready to open fire on the elevator as soon as it opens, and is then bricked by a security spider. Rurosha helps the two technomancers get out of the elevator itself to the service area above it in the shaft, and Ahriman uses yet more plastic explosives to destroy the Dobermans. Once Astrid and Rurosha help the technomancers down, they leave the building to find HTR arriving. Ahriman kills the driver with her laser cannon, and in the resulting car crash the team is able to escape.

Aftermath

Ahriman puts the two technomancers in touch with the Atlantean Foundation and they agree to go work there as opposed to going into the shadows. Astrid is able to find the Cerberus Hounds she rescued a safe home for abused dogs.

The data is secured by NCP and released to the media, which forces MCT to drop the lawsuit.
