Summary

The runners are hired to protect someone for a week. Due to a quirk of fate involving a previous shadowrun the runners identify most of the assassins before even starting the job. After killing two fifths of the assassins the week passes uneventfully

Background

The Niederberger family hires the opfor to assasinate Peter Cornelius the AG Chemi exec who conspired with Charles and then betrayed him. Saeder-Krupp is opposing the Niederberger family's move against AG Chemie. The runners are hired for a bodyguard detail until S-K and AG Chemie finalize their alliance arrangements. They are hired by Prof. Dr. Franz Andreas Buhl acting as a cutout.

The Meet

The team met virtually with Joshua Calvert in Shadowhaven Privacy Node Alpha at the appointed time. An unamed Johnson Prof. Dr. Franz Andreas Buhl is hiring the team as a bodyguard detail to protect Peter Cornelius for 1 week, Sunday to Sunday. The team is prohibited from interacting with the Matriarch of the Neiderberger family who has hired the assassins. Moreover both Saeder-Krupp and AG Chemie have business interests both the Cornelius and Neiderberger Wurst companies that are being negotiated. An initial offer of 20,000 nuyen plus travel and accomodations is negotiated up to include a 2,500 nuyen bonus to be paid up front and the lending of equipment in Badisch-Pfalz (Primarily alchemical gear, reagents, and lodge materials). After detailed questioning of Calvert and the initiation of legwork through contacts, the team arranged for a trip to Europe.

Travel

The trip to Badisch-Pfalz was uneventful. No problem with paperwork or travel documents. the commercial flight was shite but that was to be expected. On the other hand the long flight gave time for their contacts to Seattle to make overseas connections. Ellis used Alias to get an introduction to a low level KE patrol officer in Kaiserslautern while Thunder used Der Opa's extensive shadow connections in Europe for legwork in return for weisswurst. After landing in Frankfurt, the team took sprawl mass transit to Mannheim and then light rail through Bad Durkheim to Burgruin where they could pick up their loaned gear and consumable provisions. After getting off at the station the team slowly trudged uphill to the castle ruins at the peak. On the way, Nearl decided to scope out the astra environment. He noticed an unusual level and pattern of spirit activity questioned a passing spirit; it was counting different categories of entity for market research. the team met their contact at the scenic overlook. After a short exchange of pleasantries the team was told that Peter Cornelius' muscle car was in the parking lot with their gear in the trunk and they were given permissions for the car. The team then drove off to their hotel with their gear in the trunk and a Saeder-Krupp stealth tag under the hood.

Hotel ACHAT

After checking in to their rooms the bulk of the team considered whether they should stay in the hotel or in guest rooms at their principal's house and quickly decided that the house would be more secure and convenient. In the meantime Ellis was busily seducing the very attractive woman at the concierege's desk. The promise of a fine meal at the Bad Durkheim's finest restaurant was persuaive and the made a date for the following Friday night.

The House

A short drive to the edge of town and they arrived at the Cornelius house. Shortly after arriving, Ellis' previous shadow work in the Pfalz proved both beneficial and detrimental. With no warning, Miss Amanda Jones came out of the master bedroom and upon seeing tha hanuman attacked Ellis; apparently she was still upset at being shot and left convulsing on the side of the road a few weeks earlier. A furious bout of fast talk halted the attack. The angry Amanda claimed that she knew most of the team of assassins from the earlier shadowrun and hinted that she would betray the team unless well bribed. The team considered bribing Amanda with a round of armor piercing discarding sabot but common sense suggested that the murder of the principal's girlfriend would be a bad idea.

With the liberal application of nuyen Amanda revealed that the assassination team consists of four of the previous team plus a new member, Max. Since Ellis had video of the previous opposition team images of 4 of the 5 assassins were available.

The Plan Phase 1

The Nova Kid took control of the house security systems and, at the urging of the suspicious Ellis, kept close tabs on Amanda's commlink. The three remaining team members began summoning spirits with the search power. Using the video imaging tey instructed their spirits to search for any of the faces they knew in specific geographic locations. They started in Bad Durkheim, the location of Peter's house and one of his work sites. Next was the location of the Cornelius' wurst factory. While the spirits were searching. The Nova Kid reported that Amanda was making a phone call. The team pondered squelching her phone but decided to listen in. Their princple was having dinner at a restaurant and Amanda wanted him to bring home take-out. This was good to know because the spirits had found one of the faces (ZigZag the rigger) in a vehicle with an unknown passenger....and the vehicle was moving to the west away from the factory.

The Plan Phase 2

Nearl still had services from her necro spirits but others had expired so another round of summoning and buffing with sustained spells ensued. Roughly an hour passed and the a spirit reported that the vehicle had stopped. A description of the astral topography indicated that the vehicle was in the parking lot at the foot of Burgruine Frankenstein. Nearl and Knack astrally projected to the site with a gaggle of spirits in tow. They discovered that the rigger was still in the vehicle but the unknown passenger was not. A quick search of the restaurant district and the discovered their principal finishing his meal with an unknown magician. That's when they decided to kill the rigger in the vehicle.

The Hit

Knack's spirit of water made short but noisy work of the rigger in the car. Upon her death she dropped out of the group dni net she controlled. The other assassins were alarmed. The two mages rushed to Burgruine Frankenstein each with two spirits in tow. The sniper, 1/2 way up the slope to the burgruine in a chameleon suit, took aim at the restaurant door. Back at the house, Thunder who had been calling Cornelius to no avail finally got through...just as the principal was exiting the restaurant.

Things move quickly on the astral. It took seconds for the two groups to converge and seconds for Nearl and Knack as well as two necro spirits left victorious on the astral battlefield. The sniper made a good shot, but not quite good enough. A shift in the direction of the wind, a small hesitation as Thunder said alarming things in his ear...who knows. As luck would have it the bullet missed. It was quite a sight though. A rifle bullet through the door, Cornelius and his dinner companion (Dr. Pascal Wegmann-Herr) crawling back into the restaurant, manifested mages and necromantic spirits on the astral. The necromantic spirits were of intense interest to all of Saeder-Krupp's marketing research spirits in the area. In the 11 minutes it took for Ellis and Thunder to race to the parking lot, the sniper had driven off with the dead rigger.

Aftermath

A dead rigger, a dead mage, and an incapacitated mage. The assassins were never going to be able to regroup in a timely fashion. Mrs. Neiderberger would never pay them now but she could still be a source of income... Ellis spent the rest of the week squabbling with Amanda Jones. And forgot about the hot date she had arranged. Thunder arranged for a year's supply of weisswurst for Der Opa and some Cornelius liverwurst for himself. Everyone received full payment and a flight home.

Nearl

Job went well, easy work all in all. The legwork, getting to go to germany. it was a nice reprieve. Solid work from the team, and I'm glad we got it done, and that the J is safe.

Thunder

Good to be back in Allied German States. The good team of runners, the food and random acquaintances made it a very memorable mission with lots of laughs and good spirits. Research in all directions and spreading out in all areas combined with more than just a sprinkle of luck helped us save the local sausage king from assassination. And there was that monkey business resulting in a cat fight - intriguing!

Knack

Highlight of my week, this. Got paid, and got to see Ellis get run around the block by some escort lady. I've no real idea what they have against each other, but it was a nice break! Oh, and the job itself - well, it was fine. Nearl is more than double the mage I am, so she did the heavy lifting, really.
