Summary

Veles is required to stress test her machine in the field. It works surprisingly well!

At The Camp

Due to more or less getting successfully assassinated by Russian counter-intelligence, Veles has lost her physical body and has to operate a drone shell instead. Bolt approaches her for work, assuming it'd help keep the ganger's mind off her condition, and informs that presumably some group's been reinforcing a small time gang with plenty of drugs that they're cutting with corrosive chemicals to turn a larger profit. Veles is tasked with exterminating the person in charge of organizing the whole operation.

The Plan

Veles sneaks into the shantytowns of the Bargain Basement ghetto and finds a sneaky perch to observe the three story building from. Four guards in the corners of the building, a pair that exits and does a circle around every twenty minutes. Veles forms a basic plan of doing a rough clearing of each floor, finding the target and either doming them in the head with a bullet, knife or placing a shaped charge to execute them and minimize collateral.

The Run

Sneaking in through the back door works; the lock's busted, amateur move from the gang. Sneaking up the stairs, Veles uses the camera on her smartgun Hammerli Gemini to look around corners, minimizing her visual profile. This allows her to go through the first, second and third floors without much issue. She does find the target talking with an unknown woman. Unable to confirm her identity as either civilian or ganger, Veles attempts to lure her away from the target. This is unsuccessful and she has to take a partially obscured shot at the VIP. While it knocks him down, the woman reveals herself to be an augmented bodyguard and charges Veles. Her spurs find no purchase whatsoever and the cyborg completely ignores her attempts at damaging her. The same occurs for the machine pistol-wielding guard that runs up the stairs. The VIP sets up behind the door with presumably a large weapon, ready to blow Veles sky-high when she opens the door; alas, she doesn't, instead placing a shaped conical charge on the door and blowing it, completely vaporizing the VIP on the other side and blasting a hole in the wall to exit through. The damage that an unarmoured individual's knees would've taken from the fall has no bearing on Veles' body and she charges off into the ghettos with no kills but the target.

Aftermath

The gangers can't find her in the shantytown surrounding the building and Veles returns to base on foot, having accomplished the objective with no civilian casualties.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Veles - Is this on? What, I have five minutes? Alright. It's a blur to take it all in. I have the memories, but it barely even feels real. It's like I was in a dream, watching someone else do it all. But at the same time, I remember... making those choices. I felt nothing. I normally don't either when working, that's kind of just normal, but this was different. Normally, I have to remember it's just a target. A target to shoot, not a person. I have to dehumanize them first, but here? I saw them talking to someone else, probably even laughing and none of it connected. I wonder if that's what psychopathy feels like, having no connection to humanity. Being able to access that on demand is... disturbing. Alright, Hextech, I'm ready. Preparing for cognitive suppression. Let's hope you figure this out fast; I don't want to be that kind of person forever-- yes, I know you're trying, just get it over with. <LOG END.>
