Background
Heroism is a fool's errand.
Klara is from a moderately affluent family in the United Netherlands, specifically Friesland, adopted into a human family that held managerial positions in Regulus Joint Industries. Klara, eager to use her size and strength to protect people, began training to take up a position as Awakened security for the corporation from a young age, not long after it became known that she was Awakened in the first place. If everything had stayed peaceful for her, she probably would have spent a lifetime guarding some Regulus compound.
Peace doesn't truly exist in the sixth world, however, regardless of the position that someone holds or the money they make. The Devos family was involved with the European shadows, being close to Regulus's fixers and providing support to runners working for the corp. In 2074, they were involved in several runs targeting a Saeder-Krupp facility, ultimately resulting in the facility closing and being bought by Regulus. While Saeder-Krupp is enough of a leviathan for this to be inconsequential for the corp overall, the optics of losing a location in Europort were enough for them to choose to send a retaliatory message.
Klara was lucky enough to be stuck in traffic when her family's apartment was rocked by an improvised incendiary explosive. Tens of people were injured and several died, including Klara's brother Pier, as the building was choked with ash and fire before fire teams were able to extinguish the blaze. The family was barely compensated for their losses, and Regulus expected them to continue as normal. Klara was horrified that they didn't seem to question going back to work for the people who had failed to protect the, and she didn't believe the media's claims that the attack was carried out by a street gang called De Zwarte Bijl (The Black Axe). She couldn't abide working as security for that company anymore, and left the city to travel.
Klara lived as a nomad through the Netherlands and the AGS for a few years, using her strength and combat skill to pay bills. As she travelled, she gradually coalesced a small group travelling with her, fellow victims of corporate warfare both from the inside and outside. Over a night of drinks at the bar, mourning what they'd lost and pouring out vitriol for the people responsible, they decided that they would take matters into their own hands. It just wasn't right to let things go on as they were, even if taking a stand turned them into forgotten martyrs. Drawing on romantic tales of bygone Germanic chivalry, they called themselves the Order of Ashes.
The order operated much like a go-gang in essence, using bikes to catch and hijack corporate transports, taking the shipments and fencing them for cash that they at least attempted to funnel into charitable causes; local medical clinics, shelters, and community organisations. Altruism doesn't usually last long, though, and eventually the order made a fatal error. A very vulnerable van belonging to, ironically, Regulus Joint Industries turned out to be a trap meant to lure in thieves such as themselves. As soon as the van pulled over, a lethal kill team put bullets in the order, leaving only one alive.
That one was Klaus Hendriksen, the only full magician the team had to their name. Fading in and out of consciousness, Klaus was able to use the blood magic he'd been learning in secret to revive his closest ally, that being Klara, before expiring himself.
Klara woke from death, her body weakened and numb, to find herself surrounded by death. Again. That was the end for her. She gave up. She couldn't try to live up to her desires if this is what it led to each time. From then on, she would only do what she needed to stay alive. To survive, that was all she could do now.
Now if only she could convince herself of that….

1 | Cinders are another word for embers, the slowly smouldering remnants of wood-burning fires. Other than junk answers, there isn't much here. |
3 | Seems to have been involved with a go-gang in the Netherlands and AGS called the "Order of Ashes". They mostly went after corporate transports. |
6 | A report from Regulus Joint Industries indicates that the Order was exterminated by a security team on a German autobahn. No survivors were reported, oddly. |

1 | Pretty strong giant with a knight thing going on. Gruff and blunt but gets the job done. Also likes to use fire. |
3 | She acts cold, but she's clearly got some pretty strict morals that she follows. |
5 | Mages say that her aura's a bit weird. Off, somehow, like it's stained or a weird shape. |

Appearance
Cinders prefers to wear her armour whenever the situation permits on runs, stating that she wants to be ready if combat breaks out, but internally also preferring not to be seen as more than a soldier. Her armour is made with modern materials and methods, but is styled to resemble mediaeval knight's armour. Beneath her armour, Cinders is a fairly tall European giant with a perpetually-tired expression dimming the shine of her eyes.
Matrix Persona
A simple knight, cloaked, and glowing with fiery light like an ember.
