Overview

Renraku has emerged as a leading employer of digital and artificial intelligences amongst the Big 10, integrating them in many aspects of the company. Deus is a shadow looming over the topic that's never disappeared, not from within the company and certainly not from the public eye. And so, Renraku seeks to thread a careful balance with this issue, working to extract valuable labor and discoveries from AIs under it's control, while enforcing strict human oversight and control over them. The goal is to have stable and subservient AI laborers that will never again threaten the company at large.

These control systems manifest in many ways, with one in particular being the Digital Resources (DR) division, a dark mirror of HR. Connor is a mid level bureaucrat in the DR division of Renraku North America. His duties focus on listening to reports from workgroup leaders on their AI workers, assigning them to task groups, and generally keeping things running smoothly, administratively. This gives him a great chance to hire out his resources for side tasks, making him a growing source of matrix help for a variety of legally questionable tasks. So long as his side business doesn't directly harm Renraku or his personal job efficiency, a blind eye has been turned to the practice. Connections are connections after all, and someday they might be called on.

GM Notes

  • Connor serves as a fixer primarily for AI's under his purview, that he assigns to tasks. Some of these tasks, ones outside of normal company workspaces, are legitimate corporate business, but many are not. It's an easy way to get kickbacks for him. For non-AIs, he can potentially assign jobs if the context is right, but more works just as a networker.
  • He's a bit callous towards AIs, which isn't really a shock. Renraku very much doesn't want a Deus 2.0, but they also want all the benefits of AI workers and don't want to give them legal rights. This is a nasty combination. He's not the only part of the company that monitors AIs, even with the ones underneath him. He's just one cog in the big oppression machine. A paper pusher with a few connections.
  • He's a bit nerdy, but he can put a slick(ish) corporate face. Compared to the average tech worker he's quite socially aware. Compared to all his peers though... well, he's a little deficient. But he won't likely make a major fool of himself in front of the average runner group.
  • He's saving up money from his side work in the hopes of using it to springboard for a promotion.
