Overview

Furukawa Hanzō (古河 半蔵) is a professor of arcanotronics at the University of Washington in Seattle - a relatively smaller field which focuses on integrating magic with mechanical and electrical engineering. A magician of the Shinto tradition himself, he centers his research around the mythological tsukumogami and its implications for technology. While the field has yet to come up with many practical discoveries, Hanzō remains talented and capable in both magical study and engineering, and he is more than willing to help runners out with those skills. He prefers to charge for this in favors - jobs Hanzō arranges generally either help him in university politics or acquire rarer research materials, letting him continue his career relatively independent of interfering backers.

Unknown to almost anyone who knows him, Hanzō is a lower-importance member of the inner circle of the Ordo Maximus, and a vampire himself. His research is just as important to the Ordo's study of cybermancy - and doing it with UW resources is an extra boon. His position lets him inconspicuously keep tabs on the political climate of the University as well as to scout for potentially promising students.

However, anything he learns should be considered also learned by the Ordo Maximus, which may influence reputation with them. Additionally, characters with Hanzō as a contact are considered marked for burning while their reputation with Ordo Maximus is below -5 and they are not currently actively working to raise that reputation. While so marked, if Hanzō has the opportunity to sell the character out in a way that will potentially neutralize them, he does so: his Loyalty is reduced to 0, he is removed as a contact from them, and his previous Loyalty is added to the approximated Professional Rating of the danger/opposition the character will face as a result.

The Spirit is Willing	Hanzō's study of obscure spiritual mechanics makes him something of an expert in dealing with them. +2 to any roll as long as it directly involves spirits (such as knowledge on them, conjuring rolls, knowing local ones, or acquiring items like shaman tuxedos).
The Machine is Strong	Hanzō's study just as much involves machinery and its purpose. +2 to any roll as long as it directly involves a Mechanic skill (such as adding a relevant modification to a vehicle, but not acquiring the vehicle itself).
The Flesh is Weak, Some Say	His study into magically imbuing machines has given Hanzō some inroads into cybertechnological fields, as his research is potentially valuable to them as well. +2 to Networking or Gear to get one in touch with Betaware or higher clinics or cybertechs.
