Summary

Community service convicts try to avoid dying. One gets impatient, runners punish him despite him being the Johnson.

Background

Ares occasionally employs convicted prisoners as a workforce out in the field, outfitting them with cranial bombs and tracking devices as well as wranglers. These troops are one such squadron.

The Meet

The meet happens in Auburn, near some train tracks. Marshal Logan, trapped in heavy mil-spec armor and wielding a dangerous-looking chaingun, explains that Alejandro Perez, part of the team, ran off and needs to be brought back in 48 hours or he dies and one other team member has their head pop at random to punish them letting people get away. He offers a stash of criminal loot he hid before he got captured and sent to the slammer.

The Plan

Doing a bit of searching, the team finds Alejandro to have been spotted by security cameras in Dallas. They take Logan's offer at an automated cargo flight, since the drones are bad at checking a lot of things.

The Run

Heading into the slums, the team finds Alejandro with some searching effort - the ghetto's widespread, so the trail isn't visible at first. Rewired finds him first, pinging the rest of the team there. Perez looks scared and informs everyone to get on high ground right as two ghoulified minotaurs appear and try to feed on the new meat in sight. Diestra slices one right open while the other is flanked and drilled in the side by machine gun fire. Having secured the location, Perez is extracted by Diestra after she promises the guy she'll convince the J to let him go and spread his dear mother's ashes on his father's grave - which is what Perez ran off to do in the first place.

The handing off of the target is the hardest part of the run. Logan's irritated by Diestra's insistence and attempts to cheap shot a bullet to Perez's face. Lumina and Diestra both protect Perez and Diestra challenges the convict to a duel. He agrees, only to immediately break the rules and attempt to murder Diestra then and there. Lumina jumps in the way of the shot and holds her hands up to let the metal arms take the shots. Rewired gets a private message from Loga, promising him double pay if he shoots Perez now. Rewired takes the offer and points his gun at Perez. Lumina and Rewired face off with the FLR trying to run off and keep the man safe while Rewired chases after her. Diestra's furious about the man stealing the honor out of the duel and defeats him, eventually convincing Logan to say 'screw it' and let them do whatever they want with Perez, however he's refusing to pay any of them now. Annabelle Cade, another of the penal regiment members, offers another paycheck, an old weapons stash of hers instead.

Aftermath

The team takes Annabelle's offer and explore the weapons cache, keeping in touch with Annabelle as well.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Alkaios the Cretan: A doozy of a first run in this business. Maybe it's just my brain doing its achy thing but that standoff was dizzying at the end there, bullets flying and duels declared...I felt like I was in a real life Spaghetti Western!

Lumina: "Normally it would have seemed like a straight forward run, but to my surprise, there was a bit of a clash in morality among some team members.... Hopefully that doesn't become a common thing in the future."

Diestra : My first job, no honor amongst thieves so far...I think i'm starting to understand Caranza's word now.
