Summary
S-K Prime decides to fight Dissonance with Dissonance and hires Geodesic and Caliban to hunt down a suspected Ex Pacis associate. They get in over their heads.
Background
The Third Universal Matrix Conference is in full swing. Saeder-Krupp, a major corporate attendee, suspects outside parties to attempt to disrupt or assault the conference, among those being Ex Pacis, the Dissonant technomancer tribe. Amrei Veidt, under the moniker "G01d3nI", reaches out to hire Geodesic and Caliban to trail a suspected contact, B1@ckb1rd, testing whether their corruption by Dissonance will enable them to withstand it better.
The Meet
Geo and Caliban head into the Shadowhaven host G01d3nI requested they meet her at, suppressing their intense discomfort to do so. They sit down after a moment, Geodesic confused but friendly, Caliban vaguely hostile, and G01d3nI explains the situation. They are told she wants them to head to New York, the site of the Third Universal Matrix Convention, where a known technomancer and possible terrorist B1@ckb1rd is posing as a pizza delivery man. They believe he is meeting with an organized group plotting to attack the convention, and want the two runners to tail him and find evidence of this plot. G01de3nI offers 30,000 nuyen each, plus travel expenses. Despite warnings that each have received about the situation in New York City, they both agree.
The Plan
Geodesic, expecting heavy Matrix presence and wanting an edge, asks her contacts for a dose of Cereprax. She gets it from Hextech who takes even more time out of her exhausting schedule to produce some. Caliban, meanwhile, asks her for Khamsa, which she is unable to get for the team. Geodesic also takes a moment to register a Machine sprite before the two head to the airport and fly out. They leave their more unsubtle gear at home, including Geodesic's drone and Caliban's emotional support briefcase bomb.
On the flight, Caliban shares discomfort with one of the identified associates of B1@ckb1rd, Dr. Penelope Ann Xavier, who she remembers vaguely from her time in Human Malice. They have a discussion about the nature of personhood and memories, in which Geodesic claims that if personhood is transient, memories that a person has by definition have to be "theirs," whether they happened to that person or not. Caliban is disquieted by this claim, but does not argue.
The Run
Once they land, Geodesic and Caliban decide to rent a car (on S-K's dime) and begin to head towards the pizzeria B1@ckb1rd is working out of. Geodesic asks Caliban if she could thread an Infusion of Sleaze to help her keep her signals hidden while spying via drone. Caliban immediately overthreads and eats physical Fading for her trouble. Taking advantage of this, Geodesic enters and slips in Polynomial, her Festo Sewer Snake, to hide in the lobby and wait for B1@ckb1rd to arrive. Half an hour later, he does, and Geodesic drops Polynomial from the ceiling to slip into his pizza bag. Caliban confirms that he's running his Persona off a commlink for the moment using her matrix perception, and the two tail him in their rented car.
B1@ckb1rd's first delivery is to an urban mother, who tips generously, but doesn't otherwise raise any flags. The runners follow him into Chinatown, cutting through narrow streets, and find him delivering his next pizza to an older Chinese gentleman, who though perhaps a Triad member doesn't seem particularly relevant. The third delivery heads to The Pit, Manhattan's dilapidated Barrens equivalent. As he delivers the pizza to this woman, he shakes her hand, and Caliban clearly notices his living persona activate as he does so. She deduces that they're communicating via Skinlink, and make note to investigate later, but decide to continue following him. After he returns to the car, he looks into the bag, and yanks out Polynomial, who he'd spotted from the start and decided to play along with. He transmits a set of coordinates to Geodesic through the flailing snake drone, before returning to the pizza parlor. Geodesic and Caliban, despite Geo wanting to rescue her precious Poly, decide to head towards the coordinates, which lead to a skeezy motel in the Terminal, Manhattan's OTHER Barrens equivalent.
Once there, the two head to a room with a locked door. They hack their way in and decide to enter, but find that the door locks behind them. They find themselves in a Saw-nario - a video screen with a masked B1@ckb1rd flickers to life, and a terminal sits in front of them. B1@ckb1rd demands to know why the two were following him. Thinking quickly, Caliban claims that they were curious about the source of his power, and wanted to know more. Excited by the prospect of bringing new recruits into the fold, B1@ckb1rd encourages the two to jack into the terminal in front of them, claiming that a combination of simsense and truth will show them the light. Caliban, hoping to buy time for Geodesic to escape, tells her not to follow, then plugs in.
Caliban finds herself upon the sickly beach of Human Malice. An ethereal presence envelops her, promises to her, guides her to the waters, and she can do nothing but walk towards it. As she enters the waters, she finds herself in a familiar hell, inundated with hate and despair and corruption from all over the Matrix. She thrashes about, fighting desperately to maintain herself within the flood. Geodesic sees the thrashing reflected in Caliban's physical body, and asks if it's truly safe, to which B1@ckb1rd claims that it's a difficult transition, but a worthwhile one. When he brings up Oliver, claiming that someone else can care for him, she realizes that she can't risk fleeing, and must take the plunge. She sends a message to Taranis Lú via courier sprite explaining the situation, begging him for help and thanking him for his attempt at fixing her. The sprite returns with a file - defensive code, designed to counter that used by Ex Pacis. Arming herself with that, she jacks into the terminal.
Caliban, drowning in the sea of hatred, is horrified to watch Geodesic enter the terminal alongside her. B1@ckb1rd joins the two, singing a song of rebirth, as Geo is compelled by the presence towards the water. Caliban calls out to her, reminding her that the terminal is using PAB to overwrite her thoughts, and calling back to their conversation on the plane. She reminds Geodesic of her own goals, and though she can't force her body away from the ocean, she finally comes to. Caliban then turns her attention to B1@ckb1rd, who continues singing his song. She readies her power and attempts to data spike him, but his massive firewall is impenetrable, reflecting her attacks back onto her. Geodesic, though unskilled in cybercombat, lends her meager power to Caliban to use, and she tries again and again, only to get torn up by her own kill code thrown back at her. Geodesic forces herself to her knees at the water's edge, reaching a hand down to pull Caliban out. Meanwhile, empowered by using her strength to protect someone rather than merely to kill, Caliban calls on a source of power she thought lost to her - an ember of resonance. She kindles it into a mighty flame, and using Geo's assistance and Taranis's protection, breaks through B1@ckb1rd's protection, smiting him out of the simulation. Geodesic falls unconscious from Fading, and Caliban, on death's door, unplugs herself and Geodesic from the terminal. They collapse together on the motel bed.
Aftermath
Fennec, in the city due to the events of The Great Work, receives a call from the Resonance, alerting her in the middle of the night. A white digital fox appears to her, beckoning her, and she follows it all the way to the motel in the Terminal. There, she finds Geodesic and Caliban, the latter nearly on death's door. Shocked to find the two here, and in a minor panic, she quickly heals the two. Caliban wakes first. Despite their animosity towards each other, Fennec gives Caliban a hug, and helpless to resist, accepts it. Geodesic stirs, and thankful to Caliban for saving her life (as well as glad to see Fennec), joins in on the hug. The three later take a moment to decompress with pizza before Geodesic and Caliban rest at Fennec's decoy hotel room.

Player After Action Reports (AARs)
"I... Fennec warned me. And yet. I didn't listen. Maybe I could consider this. A victory. To face a manifestation. Of my sickness. And come out victorious. But... I can't help feeling. Like I almost brought doom. To Caliban. For someone so vicious. So dedicated. To destruction. She... saved my life. She showed a power. I could only dream of. She sees herself a weapon. A reagent. In bringing about her justice. I can't dissuade her from this path. She may be right. I don't know.
But after today. I know I'll mourn her. When she's gone." -Geodesic
