Overview
Detective Lewis Fry isn't really a bad guy. Working for Lone Star in Cathcart, Snohomish, is a way to earn a crust. His family pushed him into the service. He didn't say no, because he's already a black sheep of theirs, barely tolerated, because he really doesn't feel any Humanis kinship. Which, in Snohomish and Lone Star is a real issue. To add insult to injury, he's in a serious relationship with the Token Trog of the precinct…
Oh. His uncle is highly connected with the Archconservative Party. They see each other maybe thrice a year, but unlike Lewis, Richard pays minute attention to opportunities for furthering his allies' goals if his useful idiot of a nephew can be of use.
Aspects Description
Aspect | Description |
---|---|
Iterative Collaboration | While quite excited to work with runners (it makes him feel like a vigilante who can actually make a little difference for the better instead of a beat cop with the label of "that <REDACTED> trog lover"), he tends to view interactions less as straightforward requests and more as a group collaboration. If not carefully checked, the task or idea asked of him might "evolve" in a direction that he feels is either more effective, interesting or profound. Sometimes he even remembers to call back to update the team without needing to be called back. |
Maleficarum Phobia | He's got a serious fear of magic. While not hateful, he panics around displays of mojo. If on a job, treat this as the Common Moderate Phobia quality. If you're Awakened and loyalty is not 2+, treat it as one point lower for the purpose of rolls and one point higher if you need to roll a test of loyalty as he's distracted by worrying when a stray Flamethrower hits him. |
Untimely Joke | Lewis is no social butterfly - he's got the unfortunate habit of making nerdy jokes at the worst of times. Lower the amount of 1s required to glitch or critical glitch when applicable by 2. |
Working Hours | A healthy balance between work and private life is paramount if you don't want to burn out. Lewis doesn't, so he tunes out of business matters outside of normal PST office hours (9-5, Monday through Friday). Add +5 to the threshold of his contact availability test if trying to contact him at other times (very early in the morning, late in the evening, on the weekends). |
An Overall Lone(ly) Star | Low in the pecking order doesn't mean you don't dream big. Lewis does and can essentially recite the supposed code of conduct of Lone Star. He knows what you're supposed to do in most professional situations even if he's never been in one - he's aware of local watering holes frequented by cops in Snohomish and can always try to ask some veteran not too deep into their cups nicely. Knowledge tests about Lone Star as a corporation, law enforcement procedures and its Seattle operations, including where to go to meet off-duty officers, are made at +2. Very occasionally, he might even get lucky and be able to introduce you to someone not too high above him. |
Consummate Investigator | Lewis is in his element chasing crime... Fine, trying to. He's hard-working, memorizes his stuff (with a little help from ware) and can access the precinct database in his cases. Knowledge tests related to what he investigates at a time (GM discretion) are made at +2. |
Officer of the Law | He's currently at the peak of his physical form. Pistols, Perception, and skills from the Athletics, Stealth and Outdoors skill groups are at +2. |
Great Gear | Lone Star has a very clear list of favored gear producers. Officers can help one buy some off the record. The following has gear acquisition checks boosted by +2: Lone Star, Colt, Defiance, Remington weapons and drones; armor up to availability 15; ammunition and grenades up to availability 12; hermetic, chaos magic and pariah magical gear up to 12; fake R4 licenses; combat drugs up to 15; Chrysler-Nissan Journey patrol cars; alphaware or worse ware up to 15. Forbidden gear purchases require loyalty at 4+. |
That's My Area! | He knows who's who in Snohomish. Contacts from the district can be networked with at +2. Area Knowledge tests about Snoho also benefit from it. |
True Crime | He knows his stuff, admit it. Networking and knowledge tests like Underworld, Gangs or Syndicates are at +2. |
The Wicked and the Corrupt | He hates it, especially now, but he's often assigned to black magic cases. In addition to the True Crime aspect, if asked about magical crimes, his legwork takes a further +2. |
Lab Access | He's no expert chemist himself, but Lewis can still look around the laboratory at work. Better yet: he knows people who work there and maintains the reputation of a harmless neophyte you can help to get free donut and double-soymilk soycaf delivery. He can get samples of substances checked at the precinct and perhaps put you in touch with one of the middling forensics technicians if you ask him nicely. |
