Background

Born to Icelandic parents seeking refuge in North Virginia following growing rumors of the great dragon Feurschwinge lairing there, Droplaug Otsdóttir lived a mostly-normal life up until she Awakened at the age of 15. Her parents, being Awakened themselves, as well as mildly conservative, were, to put it lightly, entirely nonplussed when their "darling son" turned out to be a null wizard, a disciple of the Allfather, and a woman (not necessarily in that order). She was kicked to the curb, and over the course of the next few years, she lived off the land, compelled by her Mentor to move west, to Seattle. Her Mentor told her of the terrible things that lurk in the dark corners of the netherworlds, of the Invae and their plots, and the dismal chances that metahumanity has of beating them. But most importantly, he taught her all he could of how to fight them, and he offered her a choice: she could curl into a ball and never get back up, or she could stand tall and die honorably in the defense of her world. She chose the latter, and hasn't looked back since.
