Summary
A group of runners get a sudden call to assist with escorting a woman on a memorial trip to collect some effects of her dearly beloved, before she leaves the city for good.
Background
About 2 or 3 years ago, a Redmond Barrens Rat met a well off SINner woman. Growing closer and closer, they were working towards something together. Even with the pressures of their environments working against them, whether corporate or criminal, they spent those years together.
And then, Outis Keifberg, lover to Penelope Farina, was gone.
She waited a year for him to come back. Waited to see if those who called him dead were wrong, even though he always tried to prepare her for this inevitability. But a year had gone by, with talks of her father marrying her off on the horizon...she was out of time. And so, she needed to handle a few things and...leave. Leave it all behind. Leave Him behind.
Retrieve his lockbox. Take one last trip to his home, now rotten and decayed. And finally settle his business with the Cutters for him. Just in case.
The Meet
Four runners were called to help discreetly take her to each of those key locations over in Redmond. Exodus, Perdix, White Thistle, and Zero. A rather rough and tumble bunch, assorted by a rather confused Hellsing who wasn't about to pry into this clearly secretive girl's business if it meant ruining the job early. The Group arrived at the Devil's Kiss in Riverton to discuss matters. There they met the woman herself, Miss Penelope Farina, in a rather slap-dash disguise and clearly not familiar with these kinds of matters. The two debriefed the team on where exactly they were going to help them, but initially the two were rather sparse on details. However, with gentle prodding from Exodus Ms. Farina disclosed some of what she was doing, as well as her identity, which Perdix did a cursory search on as the meeting continued. For assisting her in traveling around Redmond - Undetected at the borders - and helping her get through her meetings with the criminal element, they would each receive 6k nuyen, by a method discussed once the job was done.
Perdix found out that she was the daughter of a wealthy banker working out of the 52 Gold Banks Tower in Bellevue. She's in a lot of headlines but tries to be private outside of that, and she doesn't seem to have much to do in terms of the actual running of the company. However, there seemed to be some form of marriage talks on the way in the coming months, and the team presumed that had something to do with the sudden escape plans. Regardless, they agreed to assist her in her endeavor and set about planning how best to handle this trip.
The Plan
The team floated would need to ensure that border security wasn't an issue as they crossed over to Redmond and then out again, as well as make sure that the girl wasn't spotted on the trip. The plan they settled in was this:
- They would pile into Perdix's GMT Armadillo as it had the most room, armor, and a smuggling compartment to hide Ms. Farina in. - For the border checks, they would cross from Downtown into Snohomish, then Snohomish to Redmond, and finally cross south from there to Renton and finally Tacoma, where Penelope would be dropped off. - Thistle would stay in the back mostly unless things went wrong, with Exodus and Zero keeping close for the most part as Perdix kept overwatch with his drones.
The Run
The first check was a spot near Cottage Lake, in Red Hot Nukes territory as Zero pointed out. The apartment they were at was a bit run down, but it was mostly well kept. Perhaps, a little too well kept, as the team spotted mines in the yard that their client was not aware of. Said Johnson, disguised, called the resident (one Phosphorus) down to see her. She apparently wanted some lockbox that was left behind, but Phosphorus seemed hesitant. However, with some intimidating encouragement from Zero, he was...a bit more willing to cooperate, handing over the lockbox to Ms. Farina and the team left for their next destination (after telling her to stop being so open about who she is).
Next, was visiting a very decrepit multi-family unit in Sophocles. A horrid looking place, worn down and uninhabited for a year and in intense disrepair. White Thistle was immediately on edge due to the background count - a miasma of regret and disappointment that felt oppressive overhanging this place. But the J was certain she had to come here, so Exodus followed her in as the others kept watch. They heard...shuffling after a while, with Zero spotting some kind of movement in the shadows of an alleyway and deciding to check it out. As Zero found someone in the alleyway who was armed but claimed he was "just passing through", Penelope had ducked into one of the rooms of the house in the 2nd floor and Exodus could hear a scraping sound. She went to check in on her but was admonished for barging in, which did little to ease the tension. As the young woman finished her...work, and began heading out, someone was waiting on the other side of the hall in a door frame. Exodus called over White Thistle and moved to protect her. Being compromised, the figure threw a flashbang at the group. Thistle jumped on it, stopping the blow from hitting either Exodus or Penelope, and they worked to quickly subdue the assailant. As they were moving inside, Perdix spotted matrix icons moving through the alleyways and signaled for the group to get going. Zero dragged this "stranger" ( a member of the cutters) into the car as the rest piled in, and they drove off while interrogating the man. Apparently the cutters were ordered to watch this spot. The prior resident, a guy called Outis, was known as quite the murderous type back in the day, and the whole location is awfully sinister so they were keeping an eye out. With this, the group tossed him out and moved on to interrogating the Johnson. Ms. Farina revealed that she...was once romantically involved with him. At one point. Thistle found this rather amusing and poked fun at her for dating a murderer, which Penelope was seething over. Perdix did another search, this time on this Outis, and found that he was a rather stubborn, obstinate fighter. Some kind of adept, whom was known for his aggressiveness, and was apparently working on...something in the years leading up to his sudden disappearance. Most of the rest of the team gave Ms. Farina their condolences for her loss, which she begrudgingly accepted.
Finally was a meeting with the Cutters. She didn't let the group know too much about the deal beyond the time and place for the meeting. It had the majority on edge, and rightly so. They were met by 4 guards and one strange elven man in a suit in a parking lot in front of a strip mall-esque area. They also spotted a sniper up on an opposite rooftop, watching. The meeting was...brief. Things seemed to have been worked on beforehand already, and this was just the handoff. Penelope doublechecked that he would "leave him alone for this" and the elven man gave a tired sigh and agreed, seemingly bored. However, as she turned to leave the sniper began to take aim. But the shot was thwarted by one of Perdix's drones shooting the rifle out of his hands, at which point the group was ready to fight. The Suit seemed unwilling, and tried to explain that this was a request from her father to bring her back. However once more, Zero pulled off quite the negotiation tactic - threatening them with an angry ghoul and a dead target if they didn't let the group walk out with her. Not liking his odds with his ambush thwarted, the man backed down and left.
Now all they had to do was take her to Tacoma, and see her off.
Aftermath
The checkpoints from Redmond to Renton were intense, but Perdix was able to handle them just fine on the matrix, forcing false positives and allowing the group through. the later sensors were much simpler to handle.
With that, the group reached Tacoma, ship in the distance. White Thistle volunteered to take her to the dock and watch over her until the boat arrived, which she reluctantly agreed to along with Perdix's roto drone following along. At the dock, sitting at the pier, she held the lockbox in her hands and gave one last little speech to the air in Italian. Crying. Letting herself grieve for the moment. The two comforted her in their own way, and as the ship approached Penelope informed White Thistle of where the dead drop for their pay would be at. White Thistle gave her a somewhat sarcastic farewell, and with that the boat took her away.
The team gathered their pay without incident.

[Exodus] - "I recognize that story. Someone whose home became a vise. Someone who's got nothing to pack but grief. I feel a little bad... but it's also just how things happen. We just need to keep going forward. Though... hopefully I won't have to work with that ghoul. Something seemed off about her. Besides the obvious, of course. The veteran-seeming woman and the quiet rigger... wouldn't mind them as coworkers."
