Summary

The Grinning Skulls were stoking fear for the Cutters' rackets, so Ms. Moira decided to hire runners to stop people from being afraid of them. Runners do that very well.

Background

The Grinning Skulls were a problem. What seemed to be a small time gang that just hurt people turned out to be a puppet dancing to the strings of the Cutters during the events of Seattle Sleuthing. Simply destroying the gang would just have a new one formed in its place, so instead Ms. Moira opted to have them humiliated, hurting the Cutters racket while not just leaving an empty space to fill.

The Meet

The runners met at Ms. Moira's house, with this being Thunder's second visit. Ms. Moira told the group the situation, and told them their pay was 2k. After some negotiating, it was agreed that while she couldn't provide them with more money, she would help provide them with information in the future.

The Plan

The runner team went to a bar to talk about their plan, eventually agreeing on the following: They would use Ryuuji's contacts to record him fighting the Grinning Skulls, and make sure the footage only showed him, not any of the other runners. They would then post this video so it looks like a single man managed to take beat several of them.

The Run

The team headed over to Avondale, encountering a group of skulls beating a man on the way there, who Paz managed to take out with a burst of suppressive fire. Ashford attempted to astrally project over there, but was chased off by a fire spirit. Once they arrived, Ryuuji insulted the Skulls, which caused four of them to rush out and try to fight them, as well as the spirit from earlier. Ryuuji made quick work of them, and Ashford hurt the spirit with a manabolt, who then got finished off by Paz. After this, a few Gangers tried to lure them into an ambushed with some bigger weapons, but a spot of intimidation from Ashford caused him to call the group in to help early, allowing Paz to sneak up and fire dozens of stick-and-shock flechette rounds into their backs, taking them down.

Aftermath

The crew headed back to Ms. Moira's, they showed her the video, and got payed. Before posting, it was quickly edited to make sure no runners were in the shot and that no confidential information about them was in it, before being sent to the matrix to condemn the Grinning Skulls to clowndom.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Thunder: Ms. Moira put together a great team of runners that worked really well together and had plenty of fun while making the world a slightly better place by ridiculing the Grinning Skulls and thus hopefully decrease the effectiveness of their racketeering business, making the day-to-day life easier for the people who try to earn an honest buck and live their lives peacefully.

The task was to ridicule the Grinning Skulls. The Runners beat up a bunch of them and filmed how they the gangers i.) didn't stand a chance, ii.) the gang leader didn't dare to accept a challenge to go 1 on 1, or at least come out and talk, iii.) fled the scene in fear at the end.

The suggestion to Ms. Moria for the film material is to post it on the public grid as a commercial where the Grinning Skulls are presumably willing to pay the community for protection if the community just leaves them in peace.

P23: "12 Grinning Skulls were dispatched with flechette stick n shock. Six of whom were jumping a poor guy who still had the strength to run away. The remaining six had the balls to fight a man who just took on four of them on his own, unharmed by bullets, and frankly I was hoping to speed things along. More flechette made sure of that. It was a cut-and-dry run, we handled it with aplomb, and Avondale was made all the safer for it. Great work team."
