Summary
A Romanian vampire hires a team to take care of disappearances in a nearby forest. It gets dicey.
The Meet
The meet occurs in a basement level safehouse where Vladmir Strigomor introduces himself as a trial government-sanctioned 'peacekeeper' in Braila. He elaborates that he's been keeping an eye out for foreign espionage, paracritter outbreaks and other such things to help local law enforcement, but he can't quite figure out what's going on in a nearby forest since people have disappeared. Getting information out of the locals is a little challenging for him, seemingly being somewhat of an outcast, so he hired the party through good reputation channels to investigate and take out whatever's making the disappearances. Oberon clocks him as having some familiar signs, but he insists not a hair is touched on the local population. The party agrees.
The Plan
Scout the neighborhood for intel, then check the forst.
The Run
Nach is good at figuring out where to go looking for intel due to the social skills and finds a Romani camp at first. Oberon finds this very agreeable, being a practicing Romani traditionalist and they all go on site, coincidentally just as the camp's roasting wild boar on a spit. The meal is fantastic for a lower end Barrens runner like Nach who is astonished by the flavor - the team discovers two things. Beady, glowing eyes have watched some of the residents from the treeline before and there's superstitions of spirits in the forest claiming lone wanderers. In addition, some driving past the woods have seen bright lights at night. With little else to go on, Oberon deduces it could be ghouls, but the wood could be making them feral.
Searching the forest themselves, the party feels slowed down by unnatural means. Oberon's suspicions are proven correct when he looks at the astral signatures enwreathing his team and is just in time to announce they're about to get ambushed. Well fed, engorged corpselights symbiotically attack them with ghouls, the former of which will attempt to Essence Drain the very vitality-endowed Oberon before the ghouls eat whatever's left. The fight is difficult and only gets harder as Tír assassins show up, having been told by a diviner where Oberon would be (roughly, they wandered around keeping an eye out for him). This bizarre three-way fight becomes messy as Oberon's targeted both by the corpselights and the elven duo, but the team gets out on top by the skin of their teeth, having KO'd Elaine and almost taken out Red Rover completely. Oberon stays behind to interrogate the surviving elf and Essence Draining her to top off his tank of Essence.
Aftermath
The team informs Vladmir of Tír spies as well as what was causing the disappearances. He's more than glad to hear about this, taking credit of the eradication with the Romanian government and paying the runners a nifty amount of money.
