Background

Mystic Murray grew up as just another destitute Puyallup SINless, focused only on survival. Until one day an elderly shaman took Murray under their wing, teaching Mystic Murray many things--most importantly that a better future was possible.

Unfortunately, the shaman never got a chance to see that future. An encounter with a feral ghoul left the shaman dead and his protege infected. While the transformation caused Murray to Awaken, it was cold comfort after losing the only person who’d ever believed in him.

Mystic Murray holed up in the house he once shared with his mentor and tried to continue his mentor's work. The barrens of Puyallup had enough dead to keep him from starving, but only barely. More importantly, his living in the past wasn't going to bring his mentor back, and some part of him knew that. He just didn't have anything else to do with his life.

It wasn't long before the world decided to shock Murray out of his grief the hard way. A megacorp had plans to use the land he was squatting on for a new factory, and they weren't about to ask the residents for permission before they started bulldozing things. The whole block was leveled by the time he figured out what was going on.

Murray was furious. The house was the last relic of his mentor he had left. He had to take a stand.

So he fought back. But one angry ghoul is no match for a megacorp. Corpsec sent him packing with a few shrapnel scars for his trouble. Filled with righteous anger against the Sixth World, Murray was left unsatisfied. His brush with corpsec had shown him just how futile a direct approach would be, so he bided his time.

Once again he was left itinerant, forcing him to take all sorts of odd jobs to survive. Mostly the kind that only hurt decent people, but once in a while he got to take a shot at some tiny piece of a megacorporation. Those were the moments he lived for. Eventually, that energy caught the eye of a professional fixer. Sure, Mystic Murray was a blunt instrument. But with the rough edges sanded off, he had the makings of a shadowrunner.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Mystic Adept (Red Magic): Murray subconsciously taps into the domain of red, justifying his ghoulish nature as just another part of the cycle of life.

Mentor Spirit (Dragonslayer): "This guy's been showing up, telling me the go after The Man. Not like I needed any encouragement."

Negative

Hobo with a Shotgun: Mystic Murray isn't one for the finer things in life. A cheap cigar and a troll-sized couch to crash on is all he needs.

PSC (Combat Monster): He fights with the fury of a cornered animal--even when he's not backed into a corner.

Appearance

Usually seen wearing a pair of sunglasses and smoking a cigar. Big, even by troll standards, but not as slender as other giants due to HMHVV bulking him up. Not a single hair on his body made it though the infection, so he's bald and devoid of facial hair. Murray has arcing pointed horns and cybereyes designed to imitate the milky cataracts of a ware-less ghoul.

Clothing

Murray wears a green bomber jacket over a ragged tank top and camo pants as street wear, and if he needs to go outside in the daytime he supplements this with a full-body cloak, hoodie, and fingerless gloves

Dragonslaying	Mystic Murray holds a serious grudge against whichever corporation bulldozed his house, a grudge which ultimately drives his entire shadowrunning career. His efforts to figure out who was ultimately responsible stalled out, but he'll follow any leads he finds. What he doesn't know yet is that the chain of shell companies leads from an unrated construction company to Hochtief Inc, and from Hochtief to Saeder-Krupp.
Day Tripper	Mystic Murray takes Zen, a hallucinogenic and psychedelic drug, like candy. The guy's dealing with low-level hallucinations most of the time. Between his dual-natured sight and the drugs, he sees a lot of things that aren't really there.
Gaia is An Animal	Murray's specific branch of animistic Red Magic uses a very loose definition of "animal" that claims everything to metahumans to plants to the biosphere itself. Actual animals are where he draws most of his strength and inspiration from, but anything that consumes and reproduces is the domain of Red Magic to him. One aspect of this doctrine is that he doesn't really believe that plant spirits are a distinct class of spirits, instead believing that they're just misguided spirits of other UMT leanings. This doctrine might get him into trouble one day.
Cannibalistic Humanoid Under-Dweller	Mystic Murray lives in a series of disused tunnels under Puyallup. He mostly sources his food from the already-dead left that result from Puyallup's inhospitable conditions, but has hunted people for trespassing in "his" tunnels. He--and his stretch of tunnel--hasn't earned a reputation for this yet, but it may become a problem down the line.
