Character Information
Summary
Created by NeoNET to be the ultimate security Spider, Pulse fled captivity when the corporation fell and arrived at Seattle, ready to pull back the curtain on as much corporate dirt he can.
Goals
- Upgrade his deck to something fitting his skills
- Avoid the corpos on his back
- Find data to ruin the other AAAs
- Join a Data Haven for Shadowrunners
Background
The first thing that Pulse remembers is the soft green glow of a cyberdeck's screen in front of his face, and the feeling of an AR keyboard under his fingers. His eyes skimming across the screen and taking in all the details, learning the code needed to fulfil a job that was instilled in his brain. He didn't have a name, just a designation: N-473. A serial number that stripped away much identity from a living being. He remembered tutoring, learning everything about the Matrix at the hands of some of the foremost experts in the field. He remembers being told that they were in a place called UCAS, in a city called Boston, but he was not allowed to leave the facility where he was staying. He had a cyberdeck, but it wasn't really his. Everything he did on it was monitored and observed. There were others like him there, but they started to disappear as he grew older.
It wasn't until he reached puberty that his thoughts really come into focus. The surgery that implanted new ware into him wasn't so bad, though recovery often had him stuck in bed, so long as he had the Matrix there was a sense of freedom that couldn't be taken from him. He eventually learned that he could do more than his handlers on the Matrix, and was able to slip the leash every so often. It was a quick trip often, but more than enough time to see that there was a grid beyond the NeoNET facility that he could see. He began to browse news feeds, finding bits and pieces about the world that NeoNET didn't want him to know. He found out about the other corporations, and found message boards where people questioned what NeoNET was doing. He would often get reprimanded and separated from the Matrix for a time, but given that he was meant to become their greatest weapon on the Matrix, it was never for very long.
During the CFD events in Boston, NeoNET fell into disarray, and the facility that Pulse was kept at went dark. The researchers and tutors that he had known abandoned him and the company had nowhere for him to go, and so they left him in the dark. However Pulse knew how the systems of the facility worked, and he could break out. He found a cyberdeck, one of the training ones from when he was a child and began to hack his way out of the NeoNET facility. He didn't have any possessions to his name, but he had a cyberdeck and was more than capable with it. Eventually he managed to find his way to a bus station in Boston, and was able to get out of the city before Boston was able to completely lock down.
From that point on, Pulse knew that he couldn't go back to the city, and with the news of NeoNET's dismantlement in the aftermath of the Lockdown incident, there was nowhere that he could call home. He started using his skills to get around, moving from place to place and finding out that a capable hacker was often in demand among those willing to do crime. He could break into most street-level facilities and it gave him enough cash that he could buy food and clothes. Pulse made his way across UCAS, eventually making his way to Seattle. Pulse set about making as much of a life for himself as he could, setting up a home and a safehouse, and trying to find other criminal contacts. Eventually touching base with Giovanni Montalban during a heist where they needed a Matrix expert. Pulse proved his use and was told about ShadowHaven as a way to expand his network.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
Negative
Wanted by GOD: Pulse's presence on the Matrix is well-documented thanks to NeoNET's extensive training and research, leading to an easier time converging on him.
Matrix Troll: Pulse never got to have fun while he was growing up, so his sense of fun is kind of skewed, and messing with people on the Matrix is how he gets his kicks.
Curiosity Killed the Cat: Every file could be the one that helps him take down one of the AAA Megacorps, and he'll risk any data bomb to find that file.
