Overview

Father Cervantes, or just Father to most, is a catholic priest running a small church on the edge of Touristville. A well built, older gentleman of hispanic descent, the Father cuts an imposing figure. Despite his appearances, he is a kind hearted man, and does his best to tend to the poor, the hungry, and the sick, seeing it as his calling to help the needy of the Barrens- a mission from God himself. He is a good man.

The Father was born in a small, nowhere town in Texas the same day Santiago Cervantes and his gang died in a shootout with Lone Star.

Santiago was not a good man.

Santiago was a lieutenant in the San Angelo branch of the Los Desperados del Diablo gang. He was a killer, a smuggler, and a crook. He and his boys racked up quite the bounty running from the law, until one day they found their running wasn’t fast enough. A too-good-to-be-true job turned out to be just that, and all of Santiago’s men died in a Lone Star ambush.

But Santiago himself survived. He managed to crawl away, still holding in his guts, only surviving because a local priest took him in and tended to his wounds. Knowing he would be put to death, rather than turn him in to the authorities, the priest let Santiago go once his wounds had healed. That was only the start of a long and hard journey of self-reflection that would lead to Father Cervantes turning his life around and taking his vows, but it was the start.

Eventually, the Father would find his way north and into Seattle, settling down to finally pay his good fortune forwards. A few years later, as he was struggling to maintain his parish, his old gang would expand their operations to the city as well. Reluctant at first, Father Cervantes would come to see that perhaps he could use his connections with the gang to help the people of Seattle. The one good thing to come from all those tattoos he hid beneath his vestments, even though he’d traded in his horns for a halo, he was still a devil.

GM Notes

• Father Cervantes smokes Lucky Strikes usually, but likes to celebrate special occasions with a fine cigar and glass of whisky. It's one of the few indulgences he allows himself.
• Though he's officially still a member of the Los Desperados del Diablo he hardly thinks of himself as one. To him, that might as well have been another life. Still, he knows the gang has connections he can use to improve the lives of those living in the Barrens, so he keeps in contact.
• Shadowrunners are killers, thieves, and criminals - wolves in short, and even a friendly wolf is a wolf still. Father Cervantes is always on guard around runners, and can come off as standoffish or curt with them. Despite that, he doesn't hate them. If anything, he sees his old self in them.
• Father Cervantes is always eager to save a soul, if he thinks one can be saved. This isn't to say he wants runners to accept Jesus into their hearts (though certainly he would be happy to see that), but rather that he wants to push them towards a less destructive life.
• Though he hates killing, Father Cervantes owns a PJSS Model 55 shotgun and knows how to use it.

Vengeance is Mine Saith the Lord.	Sometimes, blood must be shed, the shepherd has to protect his flock. But that's not what you’re doing, is it? The Father understands sometimes a run turns violent or accidentally leads to loss of life, but he will not assist on a job he knows will lead to bloodshed. He will refuse to offer up information that will lead to assassinations, gang conflicts, or other intentional losses of life.

Sanctuary	Once, a priest gave a scared young man on the run from the law a place to stay and lick his wounds. Father Cervantes is willing to pay that forward, maybe in the end he’ll save more than your flesh. +2 to Smuggler Safe Houses Knowledge checks.
Walked these Streets	Some roads are too long and hard to forget. But just in case his memory gets a little fuzzy, the Father makes sure to keep up to date with what trails his old friends are using. +2 to Smuggler Routes Knowledge checks.
In Wolf’s Clothing	A sheepdog will never fully be free of the wolf within, but a lamb can’t guard the flock. Father Cervantes keeps up to date on the goings on of Seattle’s criminal element, you can’t guard against what you can’t see. +2 to Underworld Knowledge checks.
Danced with the Devil	Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to light. Father Cervantes was once a feared and respected gang lieutenant, and had the fame, money, and power that went with that. He regrets those days- regrets, but hasn’t forgotten. +2 to Active checks relating to Gangs and Criminals.
