Background

Renato Caceres has never truly belonged anywhere. Born into the foster system of the hole in Pueblo's safety net commonly known as Los Angeles, Renato's early childhood was spent either without any real love or without time to appreciate it, an ugly little prop too big to be treated with any care and too much of a dandelion to be treated like a "man".

The path to delinquency already laid out for him, Renato was sent up to Central Juvenile when he was 15 years old on a 5-year bid for armed carjacking beef, gettingtransferred to Folsom State Prison when he was 18. That old Johnny Cash song don't come close to doing it justice: Renato, far from a stranger to abuse beforehand, nearly broke in Folsom, experiencing every kind of violation the LA prison system can inflict upon some skinny little pointy-eared vato with no one who cares at home.

There are three things that kept Renato at all sane while he was inside: his fists, the Lord by way of kachina, and his best friend and maybe more-than-such, the ambitious, snake-like Chulo Cesar Canseco, never without his gold sunglasses and flaunting his meager connections to the David Cartel like they meant something-

Occasionally, they actually did, and when Renato eventually stumbled out into the bright lights and loud noises of the outside world, Cesar's boys had their dream ready for him, at a price. A promising, full career in Mixed Martial Arts, with Cesar as manager and a full bankroll- all they gotta do is some small-time collection runs, whenever they're asked.

They accepted, and life was good until it wasn't, the ex-con "Dandelion Demolisher" becoming enough of a rising star in the LA scene to move up to Seattle, and a certain pair of masked thugs being good enough intimidators to get a recommendation onto Shadowhaven. Here, problems boiled over, as Ren's conscience finally caught up to him, the legs to be broken began to belong to ever more pitiable people.

The breaking point was when he was ordered to kill someone in the ring. Instead, he willingly took a dive, disappeared after the match, and reappeared to carve his way through a David Cartel stash house, hospitalizing or killing 25 people and running off with about 500,000 nuyen in a duffel bag. This, to say the least, displeased Cesar and his buddies, and now, Renato finds himself left only with the clothes on his back, a loaded revolver, a bag full of cash, and a link to the shadowhaven node. Only one place left he can get more, and get even...

His facial expression is almost never much of one, a blank look with varying degrees of melancholy, hands in pockets and sunken hazel eyes either staring at nothing or scanning everything.

Renato's dressed for the gym and the back alley, wearing a navy blue zip-up hoodie, usually unzipped and with the hood up, over a light grey polyester t-shirt and matching navy blue sweatpants. Instead of a chain, Renato wears a simple rosary that clearly means far more to him than a mere fashion statement, sometimes clutching it for support or using it to pray. His shoes are some weathered black rent-a-sneakers that he's been wearing for years and could not tell you the brand name of.
