Summary
Background
If there is one thing that can be said about the Barrens Boys, it's that they like to drink. So when Poe proposed a drinking night, and John suggested Boozeman's place, it was all downhill from there.
The Meet
Let's go drinking, Poe said. What could go wrong, Poe said. It'll be fun, Poe said.
Granted, he was right. The Boys were throwing em back when Lenny, an up and coming kid, wandered in and started chatting the team up. They learned he was a newly minted decker with some stolen gear, and trying to make his way up the ranks. So the Boys invited him to drink, and drink they did.
It was around the time they were trading Hot Shittakes and toasting their fifth or sixth round, that everything went black....
The Plan
- Survive Neijing's hangover cure.
- Find the girl in John's commonlink
- Find the Johnson from the prior night
- Save Lenny (save the world!)
The Run
... when they woke up, the Boys were on the beach. John was wearing some fancy suit, Buck was in his skivvies and a new tattoo, and for some reason Poe was in Galt's Ace of Wands coat. The small beach shack they're in is filled with junk, sapient racoons and foxes, a goat in a massive fishbowl, and empty bottles of booze everywhere. Everyone is in pain, Buck was clearly injured, and sitting just outside, to John's utter torment, a beautiful SAAB Gladius... that has been crashed into a Corsair Panther and the words "FUCK THE CORPS!" sprawled all over the boat.
And Poe looks like Johnny Spinrad for some damn reason.
After finally coming to, and generally regretting every life choice including being born, the Boys manage to find some things:
- John gets his foci out of the car before the car sinks.
- Buck recovers a brick of bethameth from the boat, and a flyer for "Dr, TruthTeller" a very trustworthy looking orc
- John discovers a photo of an unknown elf named Jazmyne on his commlink snorting his reagents like a line of novacoke while Buck, shirtless, cheers in the background.
- John also finds a timer on his commlink, which they currently think is a countdown to finding Lenny. The Boys all hope they did not kill Lenny.
- A short trip back to Boozeman's indicates that the boys took some kind of run to liberate all the Betameth from the boat
- However; apparently a party occurred. A nearby water spirit which had been tainted with beer, tells the Boys that John is the "Party Wizard" and was flinging "the Good Stuff" and the "Strange Crystals" to the assembled people on the beach.
- John summons an Earth Spirit to sift the beach and recover as much of the Betameth as possible
- Poe summons a Spirit of Man to locate the girl, Jasmine
The University
The Boys head to the University and after some Matrix Searching, towards the wing with Jasmine in it by way of the Sewers. They spend far too much time trying to bypass the highest of security - a simple locked door with a camera on it. Moving through the sewers has F4 watcher spirit, the team pulls a "Don't Be Suspicious" and sneaks past it.
Oh, and John develops an addiction to Psyche. Because what spellcaster doesn't have at least a nominal addiction to that.
They sneak onto campus, and while determining if we should stealth or etiquette our way through the campus, we realize the coat Poe is wearing has mafia symbolism, and that Lenny had some kind of mafia ties / worked for them. We finally make it to Jasmine's dorm and she's apparently as hung over as the boys are. "Johnny Spinrad" totally led the party, the "Captain of the Party", etc.
Jazmyne tells us:
- She decided to go partying. Got told there was a party ship in Everett called the SS Rainbow (wtf..)
- Poe had a synthesizer so he sounded like Spinrad.
- We apparently had Party Centaurs with speakers on their back. (wtf pt 2. Maybe illusions?)
- We came from someone named Pete, then went to a Casino, and John managed to pop a wheely on the SAAB Gladius.
- Buck was running out of the casino, shirtless with a goat, chased by Chinese guys. Buck took the hit for the car (??)
- Buck was on top of the boat, as we drove the boat into the car.
- Got Beta from the boat and flung it everywhere.
- Lenny was there the whole time (hacked the car, hacked the casino, etc), and was there when we crashed the boat.
Current Theory: hired to rob a triad casino by the mafia. Where the fuck is Lenny?
John calls Alessa_P and she tells us:
- No haven aligned fixer hired us
- We were speaking Italian for some reason?
- Went to Everett, causing chaos. Pissed off the Triads
- Something about a Mansion in southern Everett
New Theory: Hired to piss of Triad and frame Mafia
Dr Truthteller
The team heads to "Dr. Truthteller" and finds a sketchy hut which is empty with some crates. Small trinkets, foci, etc. Low force stuff. Dr. Truthteller has Buck's guns. He tells us:
- We need some firepower for some worthy cause - got his rocket launcher. In exchange for shark hunting in the lake.
- He really wants to kill the shark person in the lake, which we left in the trunk of the car when it sank.
The Boys go with Truthteller to a lake near him, finding Tiburon and trying to figure out what the hell happened. John manages to use "Confuse" on Dr. Truthteller. It is surprisingly effective. We manage to get the guns from Dr. Truthteller.
We know we lost Lenny after the beach, and already had the Spinrad costume. We head back to the beach to collect the meth from the earth spirit. Of however many bricks of betameth there was originally, we're able to recover four from the beach and the one Buck rescued.
The Mansion
Lacking other leads, the Boys start looking for mansions in Southern Everett. Poe finds a mansion on the coast of Everett and, on arrival, we find the gate crashed in and a fallen tree. We've definitely been here. And we get invited in, which is "hella sus". John thinks we might have stolen the car here. Sitting in the living room, alone is a woman in a black dragon dress. Apparently, we stole her SAAB Gladius. And crashed it.
Oops.
Mafia Woman Whose Car We Stole, Fransesca Giordano, the Cold Bitch Boss of the Everett Mafia, want us to:
- Pay damages on her car (in the amount of 20,000)
- Do a run for her for free later
Poe smartly returns the stolen argentum coat and gets his own armor back.
The Casino
Poe goes in and gets made almost instantly. John and Buck prepare to have to go in and rescue him. The Triad informs Poe that we stole 80,000 worth of Betameth. The bricks we have is about 7k worth. That seems... problematic.
Lenny is in the casino, apparently being held captive by he triads until we come up with 73k worth of nuyen or meth.
The team decides to do the "kick in the door and save Lenny" route, in order to rescue Lenny and get some extra cash to pay off the Scary Italian Lady.
Security is: 6 well dressed guards in 1st floor, 2 FBR bodyguards on 3rd floor guarding dressed man, 2nd floor unknown
Fuck it, we Ball
Faced with a Casino fill of asshole Triads, 8.5 hours on the clock to pay off the 80k bounty to get Lenny, and a powerful desire to pay off Scary McFuckBitch, Fransesca Giordano, The Boys decide that the best course of action is to run the Casino, rob the fuck out of them, rescue Lenny, and pay off said Scary McFuckBitch.
The Boys head back to the beach to talk to "Honest Pete/Dr Truthteller" in order to arrange some rocket launcher related exit strategies. Apparently Honest Pete also comes with a Gatling gun. Because What the Actual Fuck?
Poe apparently decides we need to add "just one more" and dials the contact on his phone that reads "Gator (Gator from last night)". A short meeting with Gator later, a phone call to Sticks, and picking up Zaya, the team heads towards the Casino.
The Plan: Pull Fire alarm, Zaya robs the place blind, the Boys cause mayhem, the gators cause chaos, everyone causes chaos, save Lenny, .... profit.
The Job
The gang pulled up to the Underground parking Garage, Galt telling the general guards and gate attendant to Take A Walk with a bit of help from Mob Mind they went on their way. The gang made it to the parking garage and booked for the fire exit stairwell. Poe and Zaya invisible, John and Buck walking tall. Poe did his best (3-5 hits) to keep the cameras from knowing they were there as he scoped out the building with Detect Life and Catalog to find their buddy and any goods worth looting. After a quick info dump, the gang decided to go straight to the top and work their way down.
Upon arrival to the top floor, the Casino owner's two FLR probably Wuxing bodyguards came out in response to Buck's smoke grenade, making the team's mind up on the order of getting Lenny. Buck and Poe unloaded on Bodyguard one and made a small dent. Galt attempted a Mob Mind and ended up with one of the guards, setting him to attack his compatriots. Buck's defenses begin to crack as he gets absolutely laid into with assault rifles. Things were starting to look Grim when Galt got control of the owner of the Casino as well. Two of them taking out one additional guard relatively quickly.
Then the Shark showed up. A massive shark adept, possibly mage, ripped out of the office, flooring Buck and taking Poe apart even faster, at this point the boss killed one bodyguard and the other bodyguard killed the boss. John attempted to mind control the shark and failed once, as it finished treating Poe like the Hulk treats Loki. Finally John was able to Stimpack himself and get enough control to slow the shark down for the controlled guard to finish it and then flee given that he just aced his boss and two of his co workers on camera. Zaya saw the chance to make her move, and robbed the safe full of credsticks in the mayhem.
Meanwhile, six alligators and a Trustworthy Pete are laying siege to the casino floor, cleared by Bucks' pulling of a fire alarm. John Stimpacks Poe, Poe Heals buck to his feet and the elevator dings to a very injured Lenny and a shot, and chewed on guard who Poe and John quickly sent back down a floor, after rescuing Lenny. The ALligators and Pete kept up the distraction and handled most of the HTR response as the team snuck back out through the staircase and garage, meeting back up with Zaya to pay her off and split up the credsticks.
Aftermath
A dead triad boss and a casino that may not recover for a bit.
A pile of "I know a guy" contact options from the Party Barge.
A serious job debt to an Italian Mob Mistress.
A hangover worse than the one that started the job, and a vague plan not to go this far off the rails again.
Oh and the meeting of a fox gang member who stuffed the car with honey soy tuna, after the fact.
