Overview
Effective supply sergeants come in many forms. Some have an almost instinctive understanding of resource management and bureaucracy. Some, a talent for making themself a nuisance until their demands are met. And some have what one might call a “criminal mind.” Estelle Valka was one of the latter. While she did still fulfill her duty as a supply sergeant at Fort Lewis, she did so largely through less-than-legal channels. More importantly, her career took a backseat to her many side hustles a long time ago. By the time her service ended Estelle had enough influence to get a sinecure as a private contractor for the UCAS military, granting a veneer of legitimacy to her dealings while retaining access to the army’s storerooms. Her involvement in fixing started with connecting UCAS military officers (usually trying to advance their careers or cover up mistakes) to runners, but since then her career has brought her into contact with Shadowhaven and its multitude of clients.
Estelle is your stereotypical sleazy quartermaster (though she’s in the business less for the money and more for the love of the game). Even though she’s not a member of the armed forces anymore she still acts like a disillusioned soldier, mostly out of habit but partially so others will underestimate her intelligence and ambition. She knows (almost) everyone and can find you (almost) anything, but is reluctant to leave her desk and deal with problems in-person.
