Police contracts are a business in 2083 rather than a calling of duty…
…But good luck convincing Max of that.

Overview

Max was born as a human in the roughest area of Tukwila and underwent Goblinization as a teen, relatively uncommon in the 2070s, although it didn't actually change him. That is to say, he's the same awkward, nerdy bookworm as before developing tusks and gaining what the unkind claim to be his first muscles after the tongue and heart. Ending up tusked and pointy-eared gave him a novel perspective of the plight of metas in poor areas, the Mourires not able to afford to let him pursue his dreams of academia. He had to work, managing to find employment as a beat cop for KE's Tukwila precinct rather than teach and research. He's nobody important, obviously, and most coworkers view the proud freshly-made detective as a harmless neophyte, but Max himself really hopes to be able to make a change for the good in the world. Thankfully his world is small: Tukwila, so he hopefully won't manage to piss off enough people to get himself killed. Maybe. Perhaps. Pretty please?

Aspects Description

Aspect Description
Rambling Study Max gets excited about most of his cases and will talk your ear off at any opportunity. When contacting him, the GM secretly rolls a D6. If they roll a 1, Max gets lost in the weeds and will ramble for hours if not stopped with a Negotiation (3) or Intimidation (3) test.
Iterative Collaboration While quite excited to work with runners (it makes him feel like a vigilante who can actually make a little difference for the better instead of a beat cop with the label of "that troggy nerd"), he tends to view interactions less as straightforward requests and more as a group collaboration. He just loves feeling wanted for a change. If not carefully checked, the task or idea asked of him might "evolve" in a direction that he feels is either more effective, interesting or profound. Sometimes he even remembers to call back to update the team without needing to be called back.
Untimely Joke Max is no social butterfly - he's got the unfortunate habit of making nerdy jokes at the worst of times. Lower the amount of 1s required to glitch or critical glitch when applicable by 2.
The Knight Errant Low in the pecking order doesn't mean you don't dream big. Max does and can essentially recite the supposed code of conduct of Knight Errant. He knows what you're supposed to do in most professional situations even if he's never been in one - he's aware of local watering holes frequented by cops in Tukwila and can always try to ask some veteran not too deep into their cups nicely. Knowledge tests about KE as a corporation, law enforcement procedures and its Seattle operations, including where to go to meet off-duty officers, are made at +2. Very occasionally, he might even get lucky and be able to introduce you to someone not too high above him.
Consummate Investigator Max is in his element chasing crime... Fine, trying to. He's hard-working, memorizes his stuff (with a little help from ware) and can access the precinct database in his cases. Knowledge tests related to what he investigates at a time (GM discretion) are made at +2.
H&M Max tends to be assigned to homicide and missing persons' cases. Call it a mixture of dedication and beginner's luck, but he performs well at his work. This means having his ear to the ground about matters related to H&M in particular. He might even be able to offer an assisting detective a modest fee for helping out - if you have a (fake) license, that is.
Guy Next Door While employed by KE now, Max doesn't forget his roots. Thankfully, neither do the denizens of Tukwila. Rather than clam up or shank him, they're willing to tell him something useful for his investigation, and he doesn't betray the show of faith. He makes tests related to the area, the locals and gangs operating there at +2.
K-9 Cop Let's face it: Max resides at an exceptionally low rung of the Tukwila precinct. He's a detective now, but no one is eager to be his partner. Because of this, Max has Koton, a trained German shepherd. Or, more realistically, Koton has Max. He does what he thinks is best for the two of them. He eats like a troll. He's... aromatic. It's a loving partnership, however, and tracking suspects on the streets is made much better if you can literally sniff the baddies out. Besides, he's adorable!
Lab Access He's no expert chemist himself, but Max can still look around the laboratory at work. Better yet: he knows people who work there and maintains the reputation of a harmless neophyte you can help to get free donut and double-soymilk soycaf delivery. He can get samples of substances checked at the precinct and perhaps put you in touch with one of the middling forensics technicians if you ask him nicely.
The Light Fantastic Tolkien, Lewis, Pratchett. Lem, Aasimov, Herbert. He knows them all, can recite quotes, would love to get sucked into the world of Neil the Ork Barbarian and spends free time reading, gaming or LARP-ing. Tests related to fantasy and SF (mostly assorted knowledge ones, although he might offer something useful from gaming buddies or connect with someone in the fandoms he's into at times) are made at +2.
