Summary

When your friend gets into underworld politics and is over his head, you don't ask questions and help him. You then quickly find out you are dealing with more than you bargained for. However, that's what jolly cooperation is prepared to deal with.

Background

Maxwell "Max" Mourire is apparently helping the Crime Mall avoid getting raided. That's a very noble act, but when he's stuck on patrol in Tukwila, Downtown Seattle, and the next raid is at 09:00 - six hours from the frantic call to Sinning Jenny, asking to deliver a certain commemorative coin Kenneth Brackhaven had minted for presidential elections of 2057 as a signal for Crazy Otter and the others to pack up shop in time.

The Meet

The face quickly meets Max on patrol by the Kong Wal-Mart in Tukwila, Downtown Seattle. Crazy Otter has to receive the coin before 09:00. Credsticks with 6000¥ total trade hands, Jenny worrying what exactly the goblinised ork got himself into. Then, it's hopping on the Zip motorcycle and heading out.

The Plan

The plan is simple: grab the coin, head to the Crime Mall in Puyallup with some careful crossings from Tacoma, find Crazy Otter, go to sleep.

If only things could be that easy…

The Run

Thankfully, 4NTHR4X is off to do the groceries for his neighbour and grab a nightly bite at one of the McHugh's joints of Tacoma, his and Jenny's paths converging. As the runners know each other from first aid classes, when the Purple Elephants gang tries to harass who initially appears to be easily targeted, they team up. The chemist sabotages the motorcycles not to be usable fast while the face spooks the gangers with implied anger of the Ragers and the Finnigan Irish Mob. Then, with the crisis successfully averted, the matter of the coin is explained.

Close to the border between South Tacoma and Loveland, Puyallup, the two meet with Blackhawk and hop onto the borrowed Ford Americar of 4NTHR4X's neighbour he fixes. They have to deal with an overeager KE policeman trying to peg them with anything to fulfil monthly quotas. Then, when he's finally out of their hair, several bug tags have to be dealt with before they can turn the SINs off and disguise themselves as different people - just in case Puyallup locals dislike them.

At the Crime Mall, it turns out the Dread Heelies gang is in charge of that week's security. In order to avoid paying a lot to enter, Blackhawk races with their fastest member - and wins! After a tense moment with a pickpocket's attempt, the team can locate who must be Crazy Otter. He turns out to be a highly charismatic and extrovert hawker selling assorted magical gear like magical activity detectors based on FAB or Awakened ivy to hamper astral projection. Judging by the impression Blackhawk has, he's a high-level initiate using Masking to appear mundane. When invited to the shop and shown the coin, Crazy Otter immediately recognises the signal and asks for help with packing up. The Dread Heelies show up again, trying to stop him from leaving without the fee, but are convinced to help evacuate the Crime Mall instead.

The call is close, but the police catch no one. Crazy Otter asks for a lift to Carbonado, for reasons he doesn't disclose, only to be accosted by two free spirits. Blackhawk and 4NTHR4X deal with them, with the man needing another place to lie low now. This aid comes from Geoff Montgomery XLII the Raccoon, another Puyallupian, and hopefully spells the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Aftermath

More questions than answers. What's the coin? How did Max obtain it? What did the spirits addressing Crazy Otter mean?

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

"Glad I ran into Jenny when I did. Been a... been a while since we last crossed paths to be honest with ya. Kinda missed her and... it is gonna take a while to adjust to the new body, the feathers are really weird. Also, I know the bastard says they aint new to the shadows but that Anthrax fella... I just wish em' the best and good luck. They still seem a bit... out of their element. Hopefully the shadows will be nicer to them than it is to others. Even if they are thriving on limited time."

This was a crazy ride. Glad Blackhawk and 4NTHR4X were there. Real professionals and simply good people. I don't think I would have gotten home safely if not for them. Crazy Otter is kooky, but I actually like the guy. With Geoff, the two of them will become unstoppable, just you wait.
