Summary

The team kidnaps an SSC shaman to find out why Kevin Crimes has lost shipments coming from the east. Job goes off pretty well considering the opposition.

Background

Cutters work more corporate than most gangs and as a result they move merchandise in larger quantities than most gangs, too. This leads to logistical troubleshooting on occasion, and Kevin Crimes is tasked with figuring out why some of their cargo is missing past the border.

The Meet

The Cutters lieutenant meets the team and explains that he's tried to keep border smuggling relatively open but things are still disappearing. He knows where to start and has the team target a Salish shaman in Council Island. Normally this'd be a more higher-paying job but the CI security suffers from some security blind spots at the moment due to bureaucratic funding issues. That, and Kevin Crimes blackmailed one of the bridge guards to work for him this once.

The Plan

Quoth scouts the place out and gets a decent idea of the shamanic lodge's structure. He doesn't spot the target but makes note of the area and fights an eagle thinking that Quoth is an easy meal. Mystic Aptitude lets the little raven rip the eagle apart, causing one of the observing Guardian Spirits to title them Talonrend as commemoration of such a defiance of natural order and self-defense. Dango gets to scouting Matrix-wise; with Dez's alchemical utilities, Dango's Matrix work and Quoth's physical scouting, the team arranges a relatively airtight alibi of Quoth and Kamillion being owners of a small talismonger start-up, hating UCAS' distrust of magic and wanting to become expats in the SSC. With forged letters from the SSC shamans and proper attires, the team gets to driving.

The Run

Dez pops a Detect Life preparation from the car once they clear the checkpoint. Dango covers some of the cameras to clear any recording of their faces, Kamillion and Quoth are very much disguised with Cinderella preparations causing Kamillion to look astrally like a spectral warden alchemist Dez spotted some time ago. They manage to get inside the lodge, inquire from some of the other shamans in the area where their target is and encounter him talking to an anansi ambassador from the deep metaplanes. With some social maneuvering, they ask to speak privately to the shaman leader and start a game of billiards. During the game, as the Salish shaman's aiming to knock a ball into the 9'o-clock pouch, Kamillion throws a Narcojet dart into his neck and knocks him out cold in one hit. Quoth activates Mystic Aptitude to carry him with Kamillion's help and they exit through a side door. The anansi waits for 12 hours for the shaman to return before someone finally informs it that the shaman is gone. The spirit believes it was discourteous in some way and finds this a saddening, guilt-tripping development :(

Aftermath

Kevin Crimes gets to work interrogating the shaman once he's properly secured and pays the team in credsticks once they cross the bridge back into Bellevue and then Redmond. This run leads into Cut The Rain

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Dango "Ehhhh didn't really feel this one. I mean yeah Council-island full of people that need the revolution up in their faces, but this guy felt just another pawn in a game. Need to talk to Sensei about getting jobs that actually make a difference. Kinda hate asshole parade jobs."

Dez

"A well-executed plan, showing the importance of prior preparation and proper information gathering. It took very little alteration to deal with unexpected complications, and we had many contingencies still in place. I'll say, though, that I'm somewhat inclined to see if I can't jailbreak our poor Shaman friend. He seemed quite kindhearted. He doesn't deserve to be held in the shadows."
