Summary

There are insects hiding in a bunker in Kansas. Those insects need to leave, and some runners are sent to give them a notice of eviction.

Background

The Kansas swarm and the UCAS army have been locked in a stalemate, trading the same stretches of land back and forth. One problem the army has been facing is that there are a large number of bunkers in the area's their fighting in, and the insect spirits have been using them as cover, emerging to cripple offensive operations that the army attempts. These bunkers need to go, and so the army hires runners to go clear them.

The Meet

The team met up at Fort Riley, where they were led to have a terse and tense meet with their Johnson, Major Jenson. They were told where their objective was, and that it should theoretically not contain anything of to significant threat for the runners. The major tried to convince them to go quickly, and Red Ribbon used their military knowledge to discern that the Major was probably working against the clock. They managed to use this fact to squeeze a bit more Nuyen out of him.

The Plan

Leaving the meet, the Throwback does some research on the matrix, and finds the floor plan for the bunker. The team discusses their options, and opts to find out more about what they were dealing with at the bunker, and go from there.

The Run

The team arrives at the bunker, the entrance to which was totally empty. Or so they thought, because something started messing with Throwback's connection to the matrix. Looking around, he found both some resonance signatures, and a persona that appeared to be connected to a large number of cicadas in the bunker. Him and Ahriman worked together to figure out that the cicadas were technocritters, and were being magically controlled by the insect spirits. While doing so, however, Lingchi and Ahriman were ambushed on the astral by several spirits, which they managed to fight off. Ribbon used a flyspy to scout through the bunker, and seeing the fairly confined space, decided that they would be using grenades. A pretty fast blitz through the bunker later, and a little over 20 spirits had been killed.

Aftermath

The team waited until the next lul in the artillery barrage, and drove back to get their payment.

Game Quotes

Player After Action Reports (AARs)

Throwback " My first encounter with a bug, not sure I am that impressed

They went down easier then most spirits I've faced so far, not sure what the fuss is about. That hive of emerged lizards though... That was certainly something impressive."

Angra Mainyu: "Close quarters with Invae? That's not what I'd call something pleasant, but work rarely is what you want and more about what you have to do. I was fortunate to have a skilled decker like this at my side. The others carried their weight in spades, too - something that had my back at all times. I'd have been in dire straits without this assistance."
